Week three of the 30 day challenge and a few things clicked this time that haven’t in years of dabbling past.

Specifically scales, keys, the neck, and improv all suddenly clicked into focus for me.

    1) I understand that the scale pattern in the lesson is A minor / C major (and how the major minor scales relate such that I can play the same pentatonic pattern for both)

    2) that helped me understand that when I’m playing “Wish You Were Here” the intro is in E minor or G major – so suddenly I know which notes are going to sound good

    3) which helped me understand that I could jump down to the 5th fret and play any notes in the A minor pentatonic scale (except C which doesn’t sound bad.. just not as good) with this pattern and they’d sound fine – because they are all in the G major pentatonic scale also.

So I was able to improv a bit down the neck in way that worked with the song I’m playing.

It was like some kind of guitar magic that knowing that pattern and suddenly it “just works”

    I’m not just celebrating.

    I’m doing a happy dance. 😁

    Ooops.

Just realized I peeked ahead to week 4 and that was the lesson that unlocked all this for me.

Oh darn. I’ll have to play around with it more next week when I watch those lessons again 😆

That’s really cool that you had those lightbulb moments of clarity and understanding with regard to the pentatonic scale and improving.
