    @teriv2 , I would guess it’s just what is comfortable for you. For myself, I get better volume if i use a pick. Also I can play flat-picking a lot faster than I could do with just my thumb and fingers. It good to learn both ways, than you can make your own comparison.

    Every few weeks the Daily Challenge seems to change from using a pick to using fingerstyle. I personally like Fingerstyle better, but the pick lessons have really helped me with learning to stay on rhythm. The pick has also helped me learn where the strings are without looking at them as much as I did when I started.

    If you go to the skill Courses Tony has a great fingerstyle focused course that I’ve done a few times. If you like music by John Prine, Blaze Foley, etc then Fingerstyle is good to learn. If you like Willie Nelson then a pick would be better. Lots of options for different tones and styles of playing.
