  • New Album Release

Posted by TMutter on May 19, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Just released my new album. A few things I am most proud of in these songs related to TAC:

    1) I was able to play comfortably with a pick

    2) I actually learned to play a couple of guitar solos with the learnings from Fret Board Wizard

    3) I learned to play alternative chord voicings that made some of the songs a little more interesting vs standard chords I was used to playing

    4) Improved finger style playing from the daily challenges.

I hope there is something in there that you like. If there is a song you would like to play let me know and I can provide the lyrics and chords.

I am so greatful to the TAC community for all the support. I never would have ventured into this with TAC and the Guitar Geek community!

Below is a link (you might have to hover over it to see it) that has additional links to streaming services and terrymutter.bandcamp where you can download the music.

I was only able to listen to a little from a few songs for now; but it sounded excellent. Way to go! WOW!

@Philb hey thanks for clicking on a few. When you get more time (like that ever happens 😆) maybe a road trip of something…. let me know what you think. It is funny based on some of the early feedback – many people have noted their favorite was a song I almost did not record because I thought it might be too personal. “First To Go” seems to be landing with a lot of people and their own experience. Anyway… I really appreciate the support of this community !

@TMutter Terry, I am so proud of you. Congratulations on the new album. You’re a very talented songwriter and the music and your vocals make the song come alive. I love hearing about your inspirations for songs, and how quickly you can pull a song together. It amazes me that it comes so naturally. I’m also impressed with, and I’m not sure if most people know, but you play most of the instruments in your songs, and you learn to play a new instrument quickly. That is another gift.

Keep on plunking, as I say. Looking forward to listening to the full album, and I’m looking forward to being a close audience member of your next inspiration. Btw, I think the song Mr Warthog is your absolute most creative and best song. I think you should be sending the single to NPR, maybe along with a few others of your best. I think it would be great if NPR could play the song or invite you to a lunchtime concert.

@Loraine thanks so much for the nice comments! Speaking of inspiration your playing, strumming, timing, and singing is on an exponential improvement trajectory! Congratulations on all your hard work. Your comment comes at a great time because I have learned that after I release music those demons creep in with “not good enough, should be better etc”. Funny you mention NPR because I saw Ira Glass last night and he shared this which is so appropriate for all of us in the the Guitar Geek Community. This is what he wrote and talked about:

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners. I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be. It has potential. But your taste — your taste is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.

“A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit. Most people I know who do interesting creative work went through years of this. Our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you’re just getting started or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal, and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline, so that every week, you will finish one project. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap and your work will be as good as your ambitions. It’s gonna take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.” Ira Glass

It was just the message I needed to hear last night! Thanks again for all the support!

      Terry

@TMutter Wow, thank you for the gracious compliments. I love what Ira says, and it is so true. I’ve almost given up on several occasions, but this is something I enjoy and I’ve always wanted. It is way more work than I ever thought, but I hit these periods where all of a sudden it just makes sense and I can do something I struggled with for so long. Then when I hit a plateau and feel I’m in a slump, I can remember that those growth periods are just around the corner. It helps me keep track of what I’m supposed to be doing to move forward, even though I want to give up sometimes when nothing seems to be going right.

I was in a small funk for a few weeks,. I didn’t do the dailies, but I still played every day. I’m now doing the dailies again and still playing other things. Nothing comes easily or naturally for me, but I see the progress after a LOT of hard work and practice. I’m enjoying myself and my journey right now, and I’m having so much fun at VOMs, even if my songs aren’t perfect. I’ve allowed myself to be vulnerable, and I think that has helped me grow.

Okay, sorry for switching focus on your post, but you introduced it so I don’t feel so guilty. 😁. I hope others read your previous post and this one and shelve the information for when they’re frustrated or despondent. It’s temporary. Continue making the effort and taking action steps, and trust that it will turn around and get better.

@stevieblues thanks ! TAC just keeps adding to my tool chest and I try to apply something new each time a song is released. This set of songs had some big steps forward for me.
