Good Day,
I have been playing on TAC for about 2 months and enjoy the Daily Challenges, and have had different levels of success with them. I am wondering how the veteran TAC members put the lessons together or use the lessons in a broader sense than they are presented. It’s not that I don’t like them, but I hope I can receive some advice to increase their utility in my overall playing. By the way, I played guitar for a few years then abandoned it to play bass in a band. I decided to leave the band and get back to playing guitar. Btw, I sold my bass and bought a Zager 80 series, which I really like. Thanks, Kevin

I’ve been around TAC now for a while and I would advise simply keeping on keeping on. The 10 minutes adds up and you don’t notice until you do. An example… I have liked the Johnny Rodriquez hit, “Dance With Me Just One More Time”. I start out with a slow and simple waltz (3/4) time. C, Dm, G, chords and learn the chords and how to transition them (skills courses). Understand they are a 1, 2m, 5 progression (from Fretboard Wizard which I love), Understand they are a C scale so I add a short break that simply plays the melody. Then I pick up bass runs for for chord transitions and pentatonic scales for outdo. And the simple song starts to grow into something. Patience and perseverance Is the key. Well really the key is having fun because then I don’t need to be patient or persevere. I’m going to do a quick and dirty unpolished one take and post it to demonstrate. And it may not be good, but I’m having fun so I’ll leave good the Studio Professionals.

@kcahill5gmail-com That’s a really good question that crosses just about everyone’s mind at some point. How do you take Tony’s lessons and grow with them and use them outside of TAC.
The lessons teach foundational skills and licks, which can often be utilized when doing improv and stepping into a situation where you need some skills for playing with others. I personally practice improv by searching YouTube for a key and backing track. Then I practice different scales and skills against the backing track.
I think the lessons teach foundational skills that you can take outside of TAC and apply to songs learned from different sites, music books, etc. Many times the lessons simply help me have the skills necessary to go out and learn to play songs. There are several free sites with chord sheets and instruction (many free) and I’d be happy to message you a list (TAC prefers that we not discuss competitive sites here).
I had absolutely no guitar skills or knowledge when I began, and if it weren’t for the 30 days to play and the weekly structured lessons, then I wouldn’t have been able to eventually go out and begin to learn 2, 3, 4 chord songs and eventually to play more complicated compilations.
I’m still learning and growing, and TAC keeps me grounded in a routine and covers all the skills needed over time. Not sure if any of this helps. Good luck and have fun with it.
