  • Getting started with the daily challenge

Posted by MadMax89 on July 13, 2023 at 12:44 pm

I want to make sure that I understand this correctly. I started out on the daily challenge this week. Currently, it’s a benchmark challenge which means it will come back around later. I find at the end of each practice session. I really haven’t made much progress at all. I feel badly about moving onto the next challenge when I haven’t mastered the last. Is this how I’m supposed to be doing it?

@MadMax89 Welcome to the TAC community! Great question. The dailies are meant to introduce you to a focal area and skill, and each day builds upon the previous one. The goal is progress over perfection. Practice for a minimum of 10 minutes per day, and then mark the lesson complete . It doesn’t mean that you have to stop practicing it, but don’t spend an inordinate amount of time on it. That becomes counterproductive. You will make progress and improve on your skills by following the above. Everything builds upon what you’ve previously learned, and you will improve. Keep moving forward though. If there is a particular lesson you like or want to revisit, mark it as a favorite (click on heart icon right side below the video). It will be saved to your favorites which can be seen under Favorites in your profile. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you Loraine! Very helpful just knowing I’m on the right track.

Loraine is right on. I want to point out that while the lessons build a thematic continuity with related skills (Tues lick could be used in Wed. improv. etc.) there is no start or finish middle or end. There is a great circular nature of how this is put together. You just begin where you do and keep going and going and as long as it is fun go more. You will eventually circle back but it will seem totally different so not to worry about variety.

Welcome to the TAC family @MadMax89. @Lorraine is spot on with her comments. Before jumping into the daily challenges, I recommend completing some of the skill courses first. Specifically, 30 Days to Play, 5 Day Guitar Routine, and TAC quick start. I thought I knew enough guitar to jump right into the daily challenges, but I had a number of false starts with the program until I did the skill courses I mentioned. I did more than one lesson per day and got thru the courses fairly quickly. Once I did that, the daily challenges and the TAC concept made more sense, and I have been consistent with the program since. Welcome and trust the process. Tony is a master at providing content that works for the beginner to the seasoned player.

Thank you! I really enjoyed the blues riffs in 30 days to play so maybe I’ll check out the 12 bar blues skill course. I confess I skipped a bit in the 5 day bridge course but I think I’ll go back and do that one again
