  • Fingers Hurt…. YES!

Posted by Wyatt on November 8, 2023 at 9:02 pm

Ok, I know that title seems weird, but bear with me. Working on the Eric Clapton Wonderful Tonight week. Lots of bends so my fingers are feeling it.

That being said, am I the only one who actually likes it when my fingers are feeling it? For me it means I have been playing and giving it my all. That is such a satisfying feeling that it is almost a Hurt so Good situation. Also, as a win, my bends have been pretty much in tune, especially since I don’t practice them enough.

Ha. Yes it must be only you, but I get it. There is great satisfaction in a fun and lengthy playing session. (My shoulder or thumb usually hurts before my fingers anymore. Also like you, I am getting much more comfortable with bending those notes. It is so fun.

    I get it.

    We all get it…. somewhat.

If your fingers are sore, you are on the right track! They’ll callous and get tougher! Doing things with your fingers- (like all the “reaches”, and stretches, and really sore fingers, means that you are doing exactly what you should be doing!

Yep. I typed that message after practicing a lot of whole step bends. The tips of my fingers just felt tingly under the callouses. It just struck me as a good feeling, a very guitar feeling.

@Wyatt I know exactly what you’re talking about. We may have callouses from regular fretting, but then a new and fun skill is introduced, especially with a fun week like this one, and we do feel it in our fingers, because we’re using a different part of our finger pads that may not be as calloused. I had one or two fingers feeling sore for the same reason. Just don’t overdo it to where you get nerve or tendon damage. If it overly hurts, then take a rest. Use ice if necessary.
