My Small Wins of the week.
Posted by Joyfinder on February 23, 2024 at 6:16 amI learned how to palm mute better. I learned how to do the thumb, thunk, thunk of the delta blues, pretty cool. My thumb muscle hurts and is begging for some time off. Preferably on a tropical beach. 😃
I learned that I need to start doing exercises to enable me to stretch my fingers wider. I played every day this week. I also learned that the delta blues sound is very cool, and I hope a time will come when I can play “Red Sky in the Morning”, the Friday exercise.

Way to Go Joyfinder! Congratulations! I loved your share! This week has been, by far, the most challenging! The palm muting was a new lesson for me and I got a blister on the side of my thumb after the first day of the technique. That did not stop me from playing though! The last two lessons were very tough and frustrating for me. I am loving this challenge and everything I am learning. I am willing to / and have been consistent with playing every day, without fail. I have remained dedicated to grasping the concept and applying it every day. However, the barre chords with the pinky on a fret 3 frets away felt impossible. Because I could not reach with my pinky on the very first chord, I felt defeated. Then, today’s challenge was even more involved. I reached out on the forum for suggestions on any alternate ways. I started breaking it down. Before, I found it to be painful and my fretting hand was cramping. That being said, I am finally making progress. I know I am not alone and saw other similar comments. I hope you and your thumb, hand and the rest of your fingers enjoy a little break. I wish I could join you at the beach! LOL!

This was an introduction to a Brave New World for many I am sure! Get the feeling if we put some focused time into this style we will see how it can be used for so much of the traditional blues. Again, I think the key is go at your own pace…include 10-15 minutes of this genre… as a quiet meditation playing soft or hard and you will feel the blues come out of ya!

Thanks for the encouragement and good advise. I never really was exposed to the blues before TAC it is so cool. Have a great day.

I’m so right there with you. It felt impossible to me too. This is where Tony’s trust-the-process phrase has to ring out in our minds. Sorry, you got a blister…OUCH! That is a real dedication to continue without pause when you are hurting and feel discouraged (I was having to fight discouragement too). So hats off to you. Now pull up your beach lounger I mixed you a tequila sunrise. 🤣 🍷
