Well after 1 1/2 weeks i can say there is a small chance I may learn to play!!!
Well after 1 1/2 weeks i still can’t do diddley but, I have learned the closer my palm is to the bottom of the neck of the guitar I can reach the cords much better. The issue I am facing right now is the speed of which I play, but that will come with time and practice. the up-down picking of single strings or finding 2 strings to play by them selves is a major struggle. It seems i hit the first string to hard and I miss the second string about 1/2 the time. I am impressed with the instruction so far, it has keep me disciplined to playing everyday,(if that’s what you call it). now the real question is… WHEN DOES THE FUN START.

It has already started. You just have to let it in. Tony says comparison thinking is where fun goes to die. With whom or what are you comparing yourself? Tommy Emmanuel? You will likely never get there. But if you compare yourself with a week and a half ago you are already having fun. I’ve been on this journey and there is no destination so I enjoy each little step. And there are times when it just breaks through and you realize that you are way better.

All skilled musicians had to start somewhere… All gave thousands upon thousands of hours of practice. Most admit that the majority of time practice isn’t fun, but at the end of a period of practice you are able to do something constructive with the skills, boy does it feel special!
it’s like as humans, we can’t walk straight out of the womb.. all new sets of skills are a challenge, the more you stick with it the more fun it gets 😉

@Rob503 Welcome to the TAC community ! The fun has already begun! I had so much fun reading your post, because it brought me straight back to the basics and day one! I had absolutely no experience when I started, and I felt the same way as you, but there were little slivers of joy mixed in with the frustration and overwhelming experience of how difficult it felt.
My words of wisdom … it will get better. You will have days of complete frustration, followed by days of elation filled with aha moments, big breakthroughs to difficulties you had been experiencing but now overcame, days where things just seem to come naturally or easier than they have been. These are the days that we work towards and love. Remember during the difficult and frustrating periods that they are simply growth periods that are temporary, and you will she a better player when you come out the other side. It is a temporary period.
Hang in there. Soon, you’ll have fun ant the expense of someone else too! )just kidding). 😉

In the beginning, you’ll hit the wrong notes, strings, and fret. Then, somehow, you can “get” it.
Then, there will be another obstacle… but you’ll “get ” it somehow in a few days.
You’re rewiring your brain, and it’ll take time.
I’m on Day 50, and I can “get” things I couldn’t even get close to doing it. Today, I got the F Chord correctly several times (missed it a lot, too), but a few weeks ago, it was almost impossible.
Practice, Time, Patience. You’ll “get” it.
