@Rob503 Strumming can be so difficult. Who would have ever thought such a thing? It looks like it should be so simple. I have a heavy hand on the strings, and it is something I’ve consciously had to work on to try and loosen up. I think overall, I like to strum hard sometimes with certain rock songs, but that shouldn’t be the case with the majority of songs I play.
I have a disorder where my muscles are always tight, so I have a tendency to be very tight when trying to strum, and this leads me to have a heavy hand strumming. When I am able to relax a little, I find that I can ease up on the tension of my strumming hand and not have to use as much pressure.
Try to keep in mind, it takes very little pressure from a pick to make sound on strings. Try to imagine the pick is a feather that you’re fanning up and down over the strings very gently. You’ll be surprised when you can loosely fan the pick and it plays beautifully, and the pick will glide over the strings so much more smoothly.
