Three TACiversaries & Counting
Today is my 3rd TACiversary. As many of you know, this week we had a new beginning of an initial TAC podcast (possibly titled “My Guitar Life”) initiated by Tony and Levi. It was launched by them along with 10-year member Maggie 3-28-24). I’ve missed the interaction of the 90-day parties, but change is good to keep this ride interesting.
How consistent have I been since joining TAC on March 30, 2021?
· Since joining TAC I’ve completed 1050 playing sessions online. Longest streak of 276 days, current daily 30 (life happens), yet maintained a weekly streak of 157 weeks.
· Daily Challenges over the last three years are often repetitive, which I like for tackling them multiple times The recent newer ones, based on familiar songs, have been great.
What are three “small wins” I am most proud of?
· First and foremost, joining Tony’s Acoustic Challenge in 2021 was my very best “win” along with extending my membership to lifetime. A bargain.
· Accomplished a few “Play for Us” forum videos in the past. My plan is to submit some more this year. The TAC community’s support with the forums and messaging has been encouraging and motivating. My son-in-law, who played string instruments professionally, has been a personal mentor. My flagship guitar is a Boucher. It is an incredible instrument that is assisting me get to the next level.
· Guitar playing has benefited my 72-year-old arthritic fingers and left wrist through daily stretching exercises and playing guitar almost every day this past year. I have much improved dexterity and range of motion in both hands and wrists. With an almost fused left wrist, doing barre chords is difficult but I am learning to adapt. They do cause me pain if I overdo them.
What guitar routine tweaks will I have to make in 2024?
· Continue to keep the TAC Guitar Journal which keeps me on track as well as giving me historical reference to my progress or lack of. I do need to play more in front of groups. I volunteer for local hospices and have done a few “themed concerts” for residents of extended care facilities. That has forced me to learn more songs related to holidays and other celebrations. The residents have been very kind and receptive to my guitar playing and singing. Best of all I learn fascinating things about the individuals who have attended these ‘mini concerts”. For instance, one lady told me she once dated Bobby Darin, a teen idol of the late 1950s and early 1960s. I’ve also come across a number of guitar players older than me.
·Future Roadblocks – Do have a few trips planned this year. Two within the USA, one to Europe. I’ve traveled with a guitar in the past but likely won’t this year as the tour schedules are tight with limited transportation storage space.
Once again, I just cannot believe how much enjoyment and wonderful instruction I have gotten by joining TAC! Thank you, Tony, Levi and Victoria.
A true value that pays dividends daily.
May all your guitar dreams become reality.
