Guitar Pro 8 software
I believe that Tony is using Guitar Pro 8 software to generate PDFs as tab sheets for the daily challenges. (Correct me if I’m wrong). I started playing guitar a bit more than a year ago, and I recently found Guitar Pro software—it’s a great practice tool for me, especially for stuff like scales and technique challenge, because it allows me to play along right with the tab, and to increase/decrease playback speed with more nuance than the TAC video window allows.
As a practice tool, it’s kind of like an metronome/tab combination. You can highlight specific bars for playback, which helps getting finger technique nailed down section by section without having to go all the way back to the start of the video each time.
I’ve taken to creating my own Guitar Pro files using Tony’s PDFs as reference. It’s a bit time consuming—takes maybe 5 to 15 minutes, depending upon the material. Today I learned how to create the little grace note for a slide (there is a grace note effect in GP, as well as several slide options). It took maybe a half hour of fumbling around to figure out how to do it, but it was worth it. (This was for the technique challenge for the first day of the Tax Man lesson).
I wonder if anyone has experience with this software: and specifically, whether anyone knows if it is possible import a PDF that was generated on Guitar Pro (again, I could be wrong, but Tony’s PDFs look exactly like Guitar Pro files). If I could easily import the PDF, it would save a bit of time.
I’ve checked Guitar Pro forums, reddit, etc., and it looks like it might not be possible, but I’m just wondering if anyone knows definitively.
