Help with music tablature symbols and understanding timing
Posted by clsharkegmail-com on June 7, 2024 at 1:19 pmI left a couple questions a little while ago and have another question. Can anyone recommend a tech. skills course within the TAC program that helps you to learn the music symbols on the tablature? Thanks, Chris

You will need to look online for reading tabs as I don’t believe TAC has anything on it. Not to confuse you but TAB notation can vary somewhat. It’s pretty clear most of the time but just be aware when looking at different sites for help on reading Tab.

Revisiting 30 Days to play, week 3 might help. It is about learning stumming patterns. On the tablature you can see the note symbols matching Tonys counting.

Here’s a site with a fairly definitive explanation of everything tablature.

And as I always say, “when in doubt, ask YouTube about”. Actually I just made that up but I thought it sounded cool and it is true

What I did was ordered “How to Read Music” Fundamentals of Music Notations Made Easy by Roger Evans from Thrift books. Nice reference book to use to read the TAB and making the connections. For example on page 94, it gives the guitar notes and how to reference them on the TAB and the String. Handy tool just for that page alone (but I believe you can find this on the web as well). It’s a small beginner book but works for me. Hopefully this helps.
