A great rendition of that old traditional song. There are so many different versions it’s incredible and yours is tip top!

Thanks. You reminded me of this classic. It had slipped by me. I like it slow deliver pace. Also pulls in a bit of our Ain’t No Sunshine benchmark technique.

Yes for sure – another one that I find similar is ‘Can’t Find My Way Home’ – with that pinky hammer-on. Thanks Albert!

This is lovely. Reminds me too of ‘weary blues’ .

    Wow @DiscostewLA ,

That was an awesome rendition of the old song. you even had some words i had not heard from other versions. I have been ‘trying’ to play that song for years but still cannot play and sing it at the same time. You are inspiring me! i am going to get back on it because of your wonderful version.

Wow – thank you so much for the kind words and I have been inspired by so many here I’m humbled to provide inspiration for others. I first heard this song on a live recording of Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers 20+ years ago and must have listened to it a hundred times (and where I stole the middle verses from).

I didn’t know it had additional verses until I decided to learn to play it a few weeks ago and found the all the other versions and lyrics. 🙂

Here are the full lyrics I found and used as the base: https://www.bluegrassnet.com/lyrics/gamblers-blues-st-james-infirmary

Rock on and I hope you enjoy learning and playing!!

Great job with the thumb. I’m envious of all who can master the thumb action in finger picking. Also, thanks for sharing the lyric site. I have it bookmarked now.

Really enjoyed this. Going to try to learn it inspired by you. This tune has always haunted me and have requested it several times from live performers. Reminds me in places of “Summertime” but so much darker.

Love that song, love that style, great job singing. All you need is a dark room with a bar stool and a spotlight. ☆☆☆☆☆
