  • Whole songs?

Posted by RTaylor on July 20, 2024 at 5:27 am

So just finished week 1 of July. I enjoyed the break down of the parts, technique challenges, all good. But at the end I really didn’t know the song, is that normal? To just kinda learn a shorten version? Or is this so early in the journey, we are just not to that stage yet. I think as I was going along I was hoping there was going to be a full tab of the song and would have been prepared to play it after a week of challenges?

You should be close to a whole song but unless that song is public domain (which is not true of most contemporary songs) TAC, an educational site, won’t violate copyright laws. I was not aware until recently of all the compliance issues with. Cover Songs. You can check out YouTube conversations on the matter.. Apparently the Eagle copyright owners (and others) are extra real sticklers. One of our TAC members had his YouTube account terminated (there is a thread in the forum about it) and lost his postings over a Cover Song he posted improperly per YouTube policies .But this way you get to make the song yours and have more fun.

@anthonytaylor1mac-com the way I understand the TAC system, it is teaching you elements of songs, techniques, timing, all different types of things like hammer ons, pull offs, slides, flatpicking, fingerpicking, rhythm, etc.. Many of these techniques many beginners would not even try. By throwing something new at you constantly, it keeps one from stagnating, and just doing the same thing over and over again. Then, when you are learning a song you want to play, you will start seeing the elements you work on in the daily challenges, and for me, it makes learning new songs easier.

Learning actual songs is really up to you though. There are many, many resources for learning songs. I have a number of sites I go to depending on the song.

Skyman911– In my opinion, you have nailed with your post. I had always heard that TAC’s method is NOT to teach you a song…… but to slowly build your all-around skills and knowledge…… to the point where you can play (almost) ANY song. There is a HUGE difference between the two. But it takes patience….. and perseverance….. and time.

Hi Anthony. I would say yes to your question of whether it is normal not to play the full song at the end of a week. As Skyman pointed out, TAC teaches foundational skillsk that are necessary to learn and play songs. You then take the foundational skills you’ve learned, find the chord or tab sheets and lyrics, and learn to play the song. I suggest using ultimate-guitar.com, which is free. There are other sites too, which I could message you the sites. Out of respect for TAC, I don’t mention them openly.
