Can’t Find My Way Home (Blind Faith cover)
Posted by DiscostewLA on October 1, 2024 at 4:23 pmI was going to record and post this and then realized I already had (from last week’s challenge). I like that folks have started posting the challenge videos. Hope you enjoy!

Nice job, especially singing also! I started recording a version singing along, but I sounded horrible (I don’t have good vocals anyway as you, Marisa, and others do), so skipped it on this one with just an instrumental. You have a nice mellow voice, your playing was smooth, and your timing with them is really in sync. Do you play places, do open mics? From the videos you have posted, you could. Well done!

Thanks Philb – my voice was never something I was proud of. It’s only with the encouragement of the TAC fam that I started working on it and it’s slowly getting better. I still have way more off-key days than on-key days, but the on-key days are more frequent than they used to be!

Very, very nice Stew. When the Blind Faith album came out, it was a revelation in my musical journey. I still occasionally spin that LP. You’ve inspired me to work on playing it using a 12 string

Cool – thanks Jack! Yeah those guys sound pretty good, right!? 🙂

Stew, you sound like a pro to me. So, how long has it taken you to get here?
-
Thanks Mike! I learned some chords and a few songs in college and then didn’t play for ~20 years. I started noodling again in the summer of 2022 and joined TAC in October of 2022. I’ve played pretty consistently almost daily for 30-60minutes for the past 2 years. How long is a hard question to answer – as Tony likes to say we are all on our own guitar journey. I like Tony’s focus on where I was last week, last month, last year and how much I’ve grown in that time. Some week’s it doesn’t feel like much, but when I look bat a month, or a quarter, or a year – I can really see the growth.
My sister said something really nice last week – ‘you’ve gone from someone who looks like they are learning guitar to someone who is just playing guitar’. That’s gonna stick with me. 🙂
Rock on and I hope you find some time to play today!!

Thank you! I appreciate the reply.
Have you always been able to sing and play at the same time, or did that take some dedicated effort?
Of course, I will play today, and tomorrow, and the next day, and the . . .

You’ve come so far Stew. This was great playing, and the vocals are bit stronger. Where did you learn the strumming pattern. Was it a particular site? As a courtesy to Tony and TAC, please don’t mention a competing site openly. Maybe message me with the info. I perform this, but it’s a straight strum pattern.

Hey Lorraine – thanks for the compliment!! I always appreciate your feedback and encouragement. 🙂
I’m not sure I remember where I got it from. I normally just try to listen to the songs a lot and get as close as I can to what sounds like the recording. I don’t always get it right but I get close enough that it works.
Rock on and I hope you have a nice week ahead!

Thanks for that completely un-disco rendition of “Can’t Find My Way Home”, @DiscostewLA
Very nicely done, the chord transitions, the strumming pattern, the vocals…everything!

Thank you so much Lankerking! I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement. I hope you have a great week ahead and get to play a lot of guitar!

It’s been a real tough week. My wife Karla had several vertebrae in her lower back fused on Monday early AM. In the hospital 2 nights/3 full days, so back & forth from home to there– (~ an hour away). Just got her home about an hour ago- (~6PM PST). I haven’t gotten much sleep and that part doesn’t look much better for the next couple days. But right here in TAC is one of my escape/enjoyments.
Again– great tune. Loved it!

Hey there – sorry to hear that you and your wife are going through a challenging time and I hope it gets better soon and you are able to get some rest and some playing time back. Sending positive vibes your way for your wife’s speedy recovery.

Thanks for those kind words. She’s pretty tough and I know she’ll be better soon, but it’s pretty hard to convince her of that right now. In the meantime……. I have gained an enhanced appreciation for those in nursing.

Great job. I am probably one of the few people that doesn’t care for Steve Winwood’s voice (although I love his music and songs) so I prefer your version. You seem to really have a lot of dexterity in your hands. Hoping I can get to this point in a couple years of TAC.

Thanks so much for the kind words! 🙂 We’re all on our own journey – there’s plenty of things I’m working on too. Rock on and let’s go practice!
