5* Hotel Benchmark Peter L – Sessions 1 and 2
Monday – Desert Highway
Classic song! I am motivated to keep working at it and not getting discouraged by all the mistakes I’m making. I practiced the chords just strumming at first. They aren’t difficult chords but it will take a while to get them under my fingers. Then I went to sustained cross-picking while just focusing on the D shaped F, then moved on to staccato. Finally did staccato – no – look (at either hand). I have to go way slow for now but this is something I can be practicing for hours because it sounds good which keeps it fun.
Once I have this F chord going smoothly I will progress to the tiny C chord and the E minor chord.
Tuesday – Mission Bell
I’ve done about 5 sessions of this today. I can hardly stop because it sounds so good when I hit parts of lick right! The picking is working out pretty well, the fretting hand is letting me down but has been getting better and better.
By the end of the day (11/19/24) the first line started actually sounding like Hotel California. Got to work my way through the next 3 lines as well.
At first I was so late on the slide that it sounded awful. But when it’s played with the right timing it sounds totally different and correct! I haven’t worked on staccatto with this yet. I did for the Monday challenge and that was not too bad at slower pace. But for “Mission Bell” I don’t want to overcomplicate things as I am trying to get the timing for the arpeggios and slides.
I haven’t done a video recording yet but I plan to do some later in the week.
