  • First year anniversary

Posted by BarbaraM on January 8, 2025 at 11:07 am

Just completed my 1st year on December 30, 2024. In my first weeks I thought I’d never get this far, until I found out I was playing the wrong size guitar! Still had a number of technique hiccups, but came back every day. Now I’m into my second year, and expecting to improve even more. I hope to be able to play more licks and improvise, at least follow along the play videos and do the scales to the backing tracks. The journey continues…

Whoopee and congratulations. I see you have over 285 playing sessions during that year so you are serious about your journey. It has been nice to see your posts this year and have you walk along the journey with the rest of us geeks. May you continue to beat that barre chord back into submission and add more theory and fun as you pass this milestone. Celebrate this win.

Congratulations Barbara on your 1st year anniversary. What a great accomplishment and terrific goals that you set upon yourself for the next year. My anniversary is coming up soon and being with people like yourself makes the journey so much enjoyable. Celebrate and have some bubbly cheer too – you deserve it!

Happy 1st TACiversary Barbara! That went by awfully fast. I remember when you first started. I see so much progress and you over this past year and I think that you’re doing fantastic. Just continue doing what you’re doing and you will continue to improve. I look forward to seeing you over the next year as you grow.

congratulations @BarbaraM , It is fun to think back to a year ago and see how far you have come. I wish you continued success and fast progress always. The journey continues indeed. I am happy to have been on it with you over this last year! Carpe Diem, and my favorite wish…no fear. Mastery is right around the corner when you learn to jettison expectations. You are closer than you think when you cant stand it anymore.

I have to say, I just came up past a year in December, and I even took maybe 6 months off because of my frustration with bar chords. I thought I’d literally be starting from scratch because I had taken so much time off.

I’m amazed, that I not only retained a lot of the things I learned, but I’m even better at it than I was when I started AND some of the newer things I’m trying to master, are coming more quickly than in the past (including the mini-F bar chord!). Some of the lessons we are doing now, seem easier than they were when I started. So there is definitely progress. I have to look at my fingers less and less.

I am also doing the lessons a little differently than when I started in case this helps anyone else. I am an audio/visual/tactile learner. And maybe this change has something to do with why I’m picking things up a little faster. I watch the whole lesson first. I don’t even pick up my guitar for that. Then I watch the “play back” of what the lesson is *supposed* to look and sound like. THEN I go get my guitar and go back to the lesson and learn it. I’ve also finally figured out how to read the tablature, though I’m not fast at it. And I will draw chord diagrams if I need to.
