  • Fretboard Course

Hi – I am looking for conversation about the Fretboard Course.

Part of me really wants to enroll but I am not really sure what the benefits are. I am sure there are some but I would like some feedback from anyone who takes or has taken the course to see if it is worth the money vs what is learned.

I am still trying to learn how to play better but I am also a musical person. I have written a song or 2 but really do want to get better at being an all around good player and songwriter. I don’t feel like my knowledge is where it should be and I am not getting any younger.

So… opinions? thoughts? Sell it to me… lol Help me pull the trigger or stop thinking about it. 🙂

@Tricia_Lynn, I’m just starting my second time with fretboard wizard. It’s been a few months since I first went through it. I’ve forgotten so much. I’m not sure if I can really answer your questions. I’ve asked a number of people in my journey the best thing I can do to get better at guitar. I was surprised how many said to learn the CAGED system. This is basically what fretboard wizard is, learning the CAGED system. I think with songwriting, learning more about what chords naturally go together, and different voicings along the fretboard could be beneficial. I’ve learned a lot, and look forward to going through it again. I hope this helps a little.

    Hi, Tricia_Lynn,

The fretboard wizard course is so much more than learning the caged system. The course is about learning how to “hear” what key any song is in, figure out the cord progression and the melody. You will also learn the Nashville chord numbering system, and how to transcribe any song into any key, especially a key you are able to sing comfortably in. You will learn all the scales, all the modes, and all keys. Most importantly, you will learn how they intertwine to creat the music we love.

Learn all the natural notes on the guitar, and where they are. Practice playing them every day. Make that practice fun for yourself. Create nite progressions that sound great to YOU, then learn how to play it all everywhere on the neck.

Fretboard Wizard is the single greatest guitar lesson I have ever had. It is the anchor for all my understanding of music.

And there is a really great surprise waiting for you at the end.

I will hop on here and confirm all the positive feedback on the Fretboard Wizard. I did the original Fretboard Wizard some years back and have taken the newer Fretboard Wizard 2.0 a few times since for review. I get something new out of it each time I review it. It has opened my eyes and my enjoyment in playing to a new view of music appreciation. It has made less work of learning a song by reducing the memory process and replacing it with a logical understanding of what is going within the song. If you are serious about learning and appreciating the guitar (and it flows to other instruments) then Fretboard Wizard is a great value.

Also— don’t forget— You OWN it. Even if, for some reason you ever leave TAC, you can still access it. Like others have said— just because you go thru it once, doesn’t mean you’ve “learned it”. Every time you go BACK thru it, you will learn new things…. every time.

Hi Tricia_Lynn, I’ve just started TAC and the Fretboard Wizard. Have played piano all my life and guitar on and off for about 10 years, with big breaks in between. Never got past playing songs using chords with strumming patterns here and there. Now I’m learning the fretboard and suddenly I know where the notes are and it’s become easier to play and *gasp* even do some improvising! It is freeing and exciting for me, and not as much work as I feared it would be. Helpful that Tony breaks things down into little bite sized chunks. I would think this would help with your song writing.

    Best,

    Elle
