I started off strong, getting through the 30 day experience and all the sudden I stopped picking up my guitar. It’s been six weeks. I’m re-committed myself to making it part of my daily routine but I’m not sure how to pick back up.

What’s your advice on what I should do or work on since I’ve been away for weeks?

    thanks of the advice!

Pick your guitar up everyday and hold it. I guarantee you will play something. How long you play is up to you. But pick it up EVERYDAY. You may only have the motivation to play a couple of notes, or something clicks, and you keep playing longer. This is the key. Long gaps in playing is the kiss of death. Consistency is where the magic happens.

You could go back and redo the 30 days. But I would probably recommend just starting in on the daily challenges. Each week is new and different and you can just jump in.

Try to pick up the guitar everyday even if only for 10 mins.

First, I’d recommend leaving your guitar out of a case and on a stand if you are not already doing so. And then pick it up. You have a good re-start just by saying you are ready to restart. I’d do the daily challenge 10 minutes and then work for another 5 minutes on a quarterly goal (perhaps a song or a skill). Don’t worry about the length of the session as much as the habit building regularity. Length will come with enjoyment.

Was it not enjoyable when you were still playing 6 weeks ago? I would just wonder what caused you stop. It seems like you bonded with some guitar players in the Philippines and you want to be able to play with them. That’s a big goal, it’s probably going to take longer than 90 days (most likely a multiple of that number)! Have you done your goal setting exercise that Tony recently went through? You should have some shorter term goals that you can reasonably achieve in 90 days. Then break those down into 30 day goals. I recommend going through the Fab Five week (March 24th – March 28th). Never mind the challenges, but fast forward toward the end of each lesson and go through the goal setting, the last 2 or 3 minutes of each day. Tony explains how to set meaningful, measurable goals. 90 days later you will repeat this!

I know when I started playing with other programs I eventually stopped because I didn’t know how to improve the things that they had me work on, I was hitting a wall and just stopped. But since I’ve been in TAC (9 months now) that has never been an issue. I know that I just have to do today’s challenge and then whatever I feel like doing. I focus on my 90 day goal for a few minutes as well. It’s always fun, that’s the important part- gotta keep it fun!
