Hello Everyone. My first win is actually starting this course. I have spent many, many years kicking myself for not picking up my guitars, and for letting myself forget most of what I ever learned so many years ago. So here I am hoping to actually stick with it. It is frustrating, though, to have to basically start from scratch.

Welcome! It is hard to start at many things; but it is worth it. Enjoy!

Welcome to TAC! If you had a significant skillset in the past, I would think it would return more quickly than a person learning from scratch as you say. I hope you enjoy this program as much as I have, it’s just perfect for me! I was an absolute beginner in March 2024 and dabbled in various online courses until I found TAC on July 3rd. Aside from when I traveled to Europe last November, I have never missed more than 2 days playing guitars. I’m in this for good and I credit Tony and his great (very affordable) program.

Well I’ve gotten (almost) through the last day of the 5-day challenge following the 30 day program. It’s going pretty well, and I’ve been consistent. I spend too much time worrying that I won’t keep it up. I feel better about myself for finally doing it, though.

I had some of those thoughts too early on, because I had started other guitar programs earlier in the year which I faded from, but I see it now as a flaw in the program if it isn’t drawing me in. TAC never fails to call me back. It’s enjoyable while being challenging and it regularly reveals growth to me, keeping me motivated.

You do have to have your expectations adjusted appropriately. It’s not going to turn you into Mark Knopfler overnight. Improvement is a gradual process that can’t be forced, the fruits will come when you aren’t expecting them, which is often more delightful than if you could dial them up.

Thank you for the reply. First of all, I don’t see how anyone could spend only 10 minutes a day on this. By the time I get my guitar out and tuned that much time has gone by. I end up spending a lot longer, which in a way de-motivates me knowing I will be at it for quite a while.

I know what you mean. The videos themselves are often more than 10 minutes. I saw that my sessions were going 30 – 45 minutes. So I’ve kind of tweaked my routine that way so as not to be on it for so long at one time. I don’t waste time pulling my guitar out, my mini sits on a stand next to me at arms reach in my office. Soon I’ll have it hanging on the wall behind me along with it’s friends Mr. Electric, Mrs. Fullsize Acoustic and baby Mandolin.

I’ll spend 5 minutes or so just watching the main part of the LEARN video (this is usually at the beginning. I might skip over parts where he’s chit-chatting or explaining TAC which I already understand. I might not even grab my guitar and if I do I might noodle on it for a few minutes on a small section of today’s challenge or something from the past and then set it aside. I’ll come back later in the day to actually tackle today’s Challenge.

If I have opportunity I will repeat the second session once or twice during the day while watching more of the learn video. In the evening while watching a show I might grab one of the guitars and go over parts or all of the weeks Challenges.

Welcome to the community! I think overall you will be really surprised at how quickly things to come back to you or how quickly your muscle memory kicks in because you have had experience in the past it may not feel like it right at this moment, but I think that it might help. But I can see how it would feel like it’s a brand new adventure or that your right back to square one starting out that’s the fun part of it though because you’ll be able to see your growth as you move forward I hope you have a lot of fun don’t be a stranger in the chats!

Hi Lisa! I am also from Michigan and fairly new… 25 weeks i think. Not counting the ukulele, failed attempts at mandolin, and years of violin prior. We gonna rock the great lakes.

Welcome aboard! Glad you have come back to it! And as you’ve already been told, it’s not totally from scratch, all that memory is in there somewhere! Consistency will go a long way!
