Picturing the Mississippi Hill Country
End of last month, we had a challenge based on the Mississippi Hill Country Blues. The following week, my wife and I travelled from Dallas/Fort Worth area to Muscle Shoals, Alabama for a conference. We headed east out of Memphis along a road I had never taken before. Having seen the Mississippi Delta from Tunica to New Orleans, I always had a good idea of the setting for the Delta Blues. But when we studied the Hill Country Blues, I was having trouble picturing the Mississippi Hill Country. To be honest, when I saw the challenge coming up last month, I figured we were headed to the Texas Hill Country! Anyway, as we drove just south of the Tennessee border on Hwy Route 72, I realized where we were, and thought you might enjoy seeing it, too. The challenge was ringing through my head as we were driving along, and connecting with its roots was its own type of small win for me.

As a central Texas guy, I thought the same thing! I was picturing that strange mix of the south and southwest you find in that part of Texas. We Texas guys might have to start our own Hill Country blues!
