Minnesota newbie here. 43 sessions in, learning a lot, and having a great time! There are lots (and lots) of challenges, but I can feel improvement daily: fretting fingers stretching and getting stronger, picking getting more accurate. I’ve had lots of lessons before (mostly fiddle and clawhammer banjo, learning tunes – first off music, then by ear), but now I’m learning the hows and whys. I also joined the Fretboard Wizard course and am amazed at how much I’m picking up, despite being very theory-resistant.

Hi @AnnieI ! Welcome to the TAC community, and I’m glad you introduced yourself. The first intro/post is always the hardest.

Sounds like you’re speeding right along and having lots of fun. Your background is interesting, in that you started with banjo. That’s not the easiest intro to strings, but then again, what really is – lol. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Loraine! I started with fiddle when I turned 60, and have toyed with that, mandolin, and clawhammer banjo. My fingers took most quickly to banjo, but I’m a beginner on all. I thought guitar was too hard, but TAC is making it seem at least possible. I think what I’m learning will translate to all the rest

Welcome. I found the Fretboard Wizard useful in opening a whole other level of understanding music. It sounds as if you are growing in your musical journey and I would admonish you to also take advantage of the quarterly improvement goals and processes. The cumulative effect of each weeks small wins on Friday is motivating. Guitar Geeks Unite.

Welcome Anniel! How cool that you have learned to build guitars, I am so envious of you! I wish I had found my love for guitars sooner, because at 66 it just seems a bit late to learn. I bought a few small luthier tools but I haven’t introduced them to my instruments just yet (or only very briefly and casually), perhaps I have a bit too much respect for the guitars and I don’t want to hurt them too badly.

Never too late to learn – I didn’t start building until I turned 67, and I had never used hand or power tools, and didn’t even know how to play guitar. It’s kind of fun to try something new when you’re doing something for fun and don’t need to prove anything any more. Go for it – first thing I’ve really loved doing.

Wow, what a lovely instrument! Welcome aboard. I just started my second pass at fretboard wizard and I am really impressed with it!

Thanks, Bill. Yes, me too! I’m on my last week. After this, I’ll work on catching up with the Daily Challenge (I haven’t had the energy to do both most days). I think in a month or two, I’ll circle back to Fretboard Wizard. Way too much info (and cool stuff) to pick up the first (5th?) time.
