  • Progression of 30 days to play.

    What is the best way to progress thru the lessons and days to play? I see that there are only 3 sections in week one. Tomorrow (day 3), I will have listened to all 3 but I’m certainly NOT ready to go the week 2. Should I just keep working on the week one “stuff” the rest of my week and then start week 2 on day 8? Thank you. I’m enjoying this course but I’d say my computer skills are about on par with my guitar skills! 🙂 How did everyone else do this? Thank you.

    Why would you not be ready? There is no test to progress to week 2. Do your best and move on. Unlike school and most learning programs, TAC is not about being perfect before you can move on to the next. You might want to identify areas where you seem to be lacking the most and address those in the skills courses but I can’t emphasize enough to keep moving.

      In my case I picked up a guitar a week ago, and I can’t get through any of the three week 1 exercises without tons of mistakes in both fretting and picking (even looking at the strings the whole time and going at like 30 bpm). It feels like moving on will be counterproductive if I can’t even get this to sound at least somewhat like music.

        @CasperC & @pulpfrau58yahoo-com

        This still doesn’t matter, you pick a small portion of the challenge that you can manage and give it your best, mark complete and move on! This concept is contrary to our entire life’s teachings – I know. But it’s best for you to reframe your brain this way. I have to do it all the time, because I too would like to do it better and then still even better because what I’m doing is flawed.

        Don’t worry, the same skill will be required in just a few days or weeks, you can improve then. For now, just try to have fun trying! It’s always about keeping it fun! Perfecting is too much like work!

        Remember to just do 10 or 15 minutes and mark complete, even if it’s only 5% of the lesson. You can continue if you want at your leisure but the button should really say “I played for 10 minutes” and not “COMPLETED!”

        I appreciate the input. Tonight is my 6th straight day and I viewed the topic of power chords. Sometimes I view them twice before I mark completed. If I’m able to keep playing every day, which is my goal, my 30 day challenge won’t take 30 days. I may have to slow down a tad as my fingers are a little bit tender right now. I’m really enjoying my guitar time and usually go longer than 10 min because I’m really motivated and having lots of fun and learning a lot.

    I started several other guitar courses before joining TAC and I got to a point where I was overly challenged and eventually just stopped. This never happens in the TAC program because completing the exercise is nice but not essential to be be successful and progress. Besides those courses, I also have several guitar books on my shelf where I started and kind of got stuck as well.

    Hey @pulpfrau58yahoo-com Welcome to TAC! You’re in good hands with @petelanger ! I agree, there are no rules with TAC, per se. This is your journey. If you’ve given a good go of the lessons, then I agree, keep the flow going. Just give the lessons the minimum 10 minutes, mark complete, and keep practicing, if you like. Just don’t overdo it.

    The lessons become more challenging, and you may need a little more time on each. Just have some fun with it all. Don’t shoot for perfection. You’ll progress as you continue forward.

    Even if you can’t play it well at the start…… make sure you think it well at the start…… It will all come together/ the lightbulb moments will start….. but mostly because you are understanding it– (and the “why” of it). They have to work together, and you need both, but the playing and the thinking are separate.
