Confusing “help” on this site
Posted by michealfrancesgmail-com on February 2, 2026 at 7:53 pmI started out okay on this site, but now I’ve lost my way. I’m frustrated that there is little help on this site, and I’m being asked to wade through lots of articles – maybe I’ll find my answer, maybe not. Seems like a waste of time. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get back on track with this site? I like this content, but without a clear way to get help efficiently, I’ll be looking for better instruction.

What particular issues are you having ? Can you just not find things ?

I’m looking for instructions about how to get back on track. TOny refers to things in the daily lessons that I HAVE NO IDEA what he is talking about. And I’ve been asking for simple help to get back on track and I’m told to “ask questions of the community,” which I’ve been doing, but so far, no one call answer this question.

@michealfrancesgmail-com have you looked at the quickstartguide?
https://tonypolecastro.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/TAC_User_Guide-v5.pdf
Otherwise there are plenty of people willing to help you navigate who have been here for years. Please try to be specific so that we can be more helpful!

It’s a very simple program. You go through the 2 intro series (30 Days to Play and 5 Day Routine) then you enter the daily challenges. That’s all that you need to do. I found this was a beautiful thing, I didn’t have to question what to do, just show up for my daily lesson.
I believe that some come here into the TAC program and they want to shape it into something they are used to. I’m not saying that is you @michealfrancesgmail-com but I’ve seen it in the past. It really is just a 15 -20 minute per day program. Many will supplement with other learning tools. I have several other sources myself but for a long stretch, TAC was my primary and at times only source of learning.

Not trying to change anything…just wanting to know how things work. I’ll try to accept this kind of help, but honestly, it’s not a satisfying solution for me. The answers are not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for how to get back on track. You SEEM to be saying just do the daily challenges and things will start making sense?

The site does have a lot of content and can be confusing at the start, but once you get going it is pretty straight forward. Like Pete said, just start with the 30 days to play. Once that is done, you will start on the 5 day challenge which sets you up for the rest of the program. Tony (in my opinion) does a really good job of explaining everything in the videos and how to progress.
There are also the other optional tutorials on the site (under “Skill Courses”) which you can do at your own pace. I like doing these on the weekends when I have time (just started the fingerpicking course which has been really fun).
Have fun! And be patient! Focus on the little wins and know that it takes a little effort and practice. And keep your expectations realistic at the start. It is a fun journey.
Cheers.

Hi Michael. I hear your frustration. I agree with Pete, go back to the quick start guide. There really isn’t a right or wrong way to work the material in TAC. I did the 30 days, the next 6 chords, and then I took stretching, The 5 days skill course came awhile after I started, but it’s a great intro into he daily challenges and how they’re set up. The daily challenges are an extremely important path, because it teaches all the foundational skills. The Skills courses are a great way to learn specific techniques and add variety. Take whichever you are drawn to.
You are taking advantage of the community by posting your frustration and asking for assistance. That’s the exact place you’ll find the help and guidance you need. Keep asking, but also make sure yo post your small wins too. This encourages others, and it allows us to celebrate with you.
There is a Support button too to reach Victoria at TAC (bottom left)

Hi Peter I felt the exact same way when I started in October. Here’s my newbie take on thing, someone else correct me if I’m wrong. The first 30 day challenge is to get you to come in for 30 straight days. Or as close to it as you can. I don’t believe it is designed to get you to play. It’s designed to get you into the habit of wanting to pick up the guitar. I think of it as the honeymoon stage. You date your guitar for thirty days each day that you spend 10 minutes stepping towards what Tony presents is a Win. Collect wins. It’s about learning how to learn. Then the 5 daily challenges is the grace period. Tony shows you something and I try, best as I can to duplicate what he’s saying. (Usually on the slowest speed.) But that’s okay it’s not a race and it’s not my day job. (Thank God). Here’s the thing, my fingers are getting the desired callouses, my time playing the challenges of the day is getting longer. And as a bonus, If I’m not frustrating the crap out of myself I may actually start to see that I’m making progress. So if I can you can too. Stay with us. He’s a madman but I really like Tony’s process. My biggest difficulty is slowing down what I thing I should be learning and just enjoying the process. (That’s my story anyway, but I never wanted to play Cargnegie Hall anyway.) Good Luck.

@Mave I didn’t start this thread.
@michealfrancesgmail-com asked the original question, I’ve been trying to help him.

Thanks, Mave, especially for the invitation to “stay with us”. my frustration levels are very high with this program and I’m still unclear about how to get back on track. The advice that I’m getting from you and others seems nice, but I’d like direct, step by step directions to get back on track.

@michealfrancesgmail-com I really wish I could help you. It’s an awful feeling to know a brother is lost and can’t find his way. I hate to say it but nobody will be able to give you step by step directions if we don’t know where you are right now and what it is that you are not understanding. Is there terminology that Tony is using that you are confused by? If so, what lesson was it in?
I also didn’t sign up for TAC so I could support it. I am a player just like everyone else here who trying to help you. We all paid for our membership here and are learning to play guitar. I am happy to help but I have to understand how to help. There isn’t a track that we can put you back on. Everyone’s path is a little different based on their background and many other factors and experiences in their lives.

I sense frustration but you haven’t stated one area that you need help with. You say you don’t understand what Tony is explaining in a lesson. Give an example so we can offer advise.
