Finger tips ice cold/numbness
Hi
I just started back at learning guitar 2 Months ago after a 24 yr break. After a month, I noticed that my finger tips feel numb and are ice cold. This didn’t happen to me before. Has anyone else experienced this? They’re now sensitive to hot water too.

I have not experienced this, so I can only throw out some suggestions. How are your calluses? After 24 years of not playing you would have had to redevelop them. Is it both hands or just your fretting hand? Have you been checked out for neuropathy? Any similar sensations in other places, such as toes? If I were you, I would explore a medical issue. If it’s not medical, you can get a product called Rock Tips on Amazon that you paint on your finger tips to protect them from damage and pain while you build up calluses. Good luck, and I hope you find the root of the issue and can fix it!

To what degree are you feeling this. Is it just noticable, a nuisance, or is it present enough to be worrisome? Both numb and feeling cold (but not really, as a matter of trying to differentiate between actually cold to anyone’s touch and bluish, indicating a circulation issue) and heat sensitive lead me to think there is a nerve thing going on. Have you ever experiened carpel tunnel syndrome? It could be too that if you have been hitting it hard for the last two months after a hiatus your fingers may not be ready to do what your mind remembers them doing. That would be playing to exhaustion repeatedly and as the matter of practice for the months. Not the end of the world as long as you get it figured out!
