  1. I’m really enjoying this so far, thank you for taking the time to help!! I’m playing a Greg Bennet Samich D-6 and it sounds great. Thanks again!!

  2. I play a Taylor 814ce.

I have been playing/dabbling in guitar for 25 years but always seem to get stuck in a rut at the end of the same road. Piano is my main instrument. I’m tired of four chords in 6/8. Trying this to see what happens. Thanks for offering this challenge.

  3. Hi Tony:

I play a Japanese made 1980’s Fender Stratocastor, a fairly new Gibson Les Paul Studio and a Yamaha 12 string.

I saw your challenge while I was away on holidays and didn’t want to miss it. I couldn’t do much while I was away but I latched onto it so I could try it when I got home. I am trying to make this commitment. I have played and dabbled for years. I won’t make excuses as one makes time for things they are passionate about. I work too many hours and am trying to adjust my schedule to accommodate this new approach. I am looking forward to making this a “Guitar” winter!!!

  4. I’m playing a dreadnaught Martin x series special acustic/electric. It’s a hard stretch so I’m picking up an inexpensive Fender parlor size. Hope it helps play longer while learning.

  5. I’m playing a Yamaha F355 Natural color (looks a lot like yours:) that my husband bought me during COVID. I haven’t used a pick much before and played on a Yamaha classical. So far, i really like this lesson.

  6. I have an Acadian acoustic guitar and a jackson electric with a peavey amp. I have played on and off since i was 16. I was starting to actually learn from my brother in law before he took his own life. I learned by myself feom tab.

  7. Hi Tony. This is a fun little intro. I am currently learning on a GK s39c. I bought it for my son 20 years ago. It’s beat up. Been broken and fixed, but sounds OK and stays in tune.

  8. Hey,
I am using a cheepo Jay Turser that I bought off of marketplace. My goal is that if I can actually get to where I can play a couple of songs, I will reward myself with something better!
    Thanks

    1. I’m with you on that. I bought a nice electric guitar from a shop when I was 16 and it’s mostly sat for 30 years so this time I found the lowest price acoustic from Wallmart. I got a BP something… but I think it sounds and looks good. It came with a case and all the accessories for $105. If I stick with it for more than a season I’ll upgrade!

  9. I’ve been trying to play a purple Ibanez acoustic guitar circa 1994, a champaign electric Gretsch, a Fender short scale electric, and a Fender strat for over 6 years and still suck. Got my eyes on an orange Gretsch because it can’t be me – it must be the guitar.
    Am I right? LOL.
I’m not crazy, just 65 and frustrated.

  10. I just bought an Irin Chinese Gretsch Electromatic double cut copy complete with Chigsby trem. Its very pretty and cost me $275 CAD delivered to my door in rural Alberta. I’ve built a couple of kits and have learned a few things about setting up a guitar properly but this one came out of the box pretty well done. Maybe down the road I’ll change a few things but for right now, these cheap kits and Asian copies are enough guitar for me. At heart I’m an Ibanez guy and have an old ST80 and a GXR40 factory builds. I amp through either a Blackstar ID:30 or a Marshall CODE 100 head and cab setup.

  11. Playing a 2019, Emerald X10. I bought it new and still can’t really play anything. Oh, I can make musical noises. After several starts and stops, I’m ready to start again, hoping that this time I stick to it. I’ve been a TAC member for several years. Not your fault for my inconsistency, it’s all on me.

  12. I’m on your 5-day challenge, but can’t see the box you describe for tabs. I have full screen and the tempo slide, though.
I’m playing an Epiphone SG, because I find electric guitars more responsive than my acoustics.
I started when I was 10, played for ten+ years, then took 20 years off to raise a kid and get a couple of degrees.

  13. I play a Crafter 200CE cut out dreadnought. Once i changed strings to 11 gauge elixir nanoweb it plays so smooth – still probably needs a proper set up but cant seem to find any people to do it for me – the only guy in the area charges a 150 euros for the job….

  14. Alvarez Laureate LF70Le. I had Sweetwater setup and pleck pro fret adjustment. This guitar has the sound and feel I like. I feel the setup has enhanced my early learning experience.

  15. I’m playing an old Jasmine acoustic that I bought off Craigslist for $50 No idea how old it is. The guy I bought it from looked like he might have been an addict, and the guitar itself looks like it might have come in contact with something acidic (finish gone in some areas), but the tone is very rich and it stays in tune,

  16. I’m playing a 2003 Takamine, was actually made by Taylor…
Recently had a complete fret job, has never played better…

  17. I started out playing an Epiphone dreadnought. After a few months I had to admit that the guitar was absolutely too big for me. My right shoulder hurt. I’m 5’3″ and weigh 113 pounds. I did some research and bought a Taylor GS MINI Rosewood with spruce top and rosewood back and sides. I hesitated because it was not exactly a “full-size” guitar. But it was perfect for my size and has a beautiful sound, and now I play in complete comfort.

  18. hi Tony, thanks for the challenge, i’m 67 and wanted to play guitar my whole life. now i’m retired and have more time i started playing 6 weeks ago and want to feel like im getting somewhere besides practicing chords and changes every day. i enjoy practicing but feel like something is missing and this might be it. i have a Takamine GS New Yorker which is set up nicely and joy to play.

  19. I am playing my husband’s Conn model C-11 classical guitar. It has a nice sound but is kind of difficult for me to navigate the wide neck. I am adjusting though.

  20. Getting back into it after a number of years.
I remembered quickly that I needed to trim the nails on my fret hand!

  21. I play a 1993 Gibson J-100 Xrtra. It belonged to my brother from 1993 to 2018 when he passed. He was an incredibly gifted musician and instilled in me the love for the Grateful Dead (thank you for the first lesson song choice!). When he passed suddenly, I inherited his guitar and knew it needed to make music again because this guitar is part of his soul! When I realized that I could never part from this guitar I had to learn to play so it would make music again! I will never scratch the surface of ability my brother shared with this world, but I am doing my best to have this Gibson play on! Thanks for helping me along my journey!

  22. I play a classical guitar from solid ceder with cutout, hand made by an old man from the neighbouring town here in Mexico.
In my old home in Europe I have an Alhambra beginner’s guitar that I love and I’m still trying to get over here.
