  1. Sorry to be a lazy copycat, but I’m very tired and the post below by Val sums up my experience and thoughts on this 5-day challenge perfectly. I heard the idea of progress over perfection, but I just couldn’t keep up. Practice was around an hour per day and i was stumbling and then Lo! The next day was moving faster. Day 5 all I could do was watch, basically.

  2. I think Tony’s approach is very good; the only problem is the speed with which you move from one challenge to the next. It’s definitely not a 10-minute practice routine, but to be honest, if someone wants to learn to play by practicing only 10 minutes a day, they’re not taking the learning process seriously. Perhaps a few days or a week on each challenge would be more plausible and less frustrating, as it would allow the person to feel more confident before moving on to the next step.
For me, it was frustrating to try to move on to the next challenge knowing that I hadn’t yet learned the previous one. Instead of feeling motivated, I felt more frustrated. I definitely like his approach, but not the speed for someone who is just starting to learn. For someone who isn’t starting from scratch, it’s definitely perfect.

  3. After playing this yesterday I KNOW I CAN DO THIS, just have to be patient with myself and consistent. Pick strumming I’ll get eventually.

  4. Each day was a challenge! Learning is slow but by the time we got to the end I felt that I had progressed. At least I understand the process and see how it can move me forward. Difficult for a perfectionist to leave each lesson without playing it well.

  5. Thank you Tony! This was fun! I am going to try to incorporate these more challenging bass walks. I usually only add simple ones when I playout in public. I took 7 years of 1-1 guitar lessons. I have the knowledge, but haven’t gone beyond the 5th fret when playing songs. I have to build my confidence up. I feel that this method of teaching will benefit me. I signed up for the Acoustic Challenge. Looking forward to it.

  6. Really cool to play those transition notes over cords.

Am concerned my shoulder still hurts when I play. Arm goes numb.
That is the main thing holding me back from signing up for TAC.

  7. I’m hoping we can come back to the lessons in this 5-day challenge in the future. I didn’t know “Friend of the Devil,” so I looked it up and listened (on day 5!). I want to be able to continue practicing the sessions with you until I can get really comfortable. At first, I felt overwhelmed, but now when I go back to previous days (from the email links), the first day seems a lot easier. My fingers are still getting conditioned, so I think going through the lessons again with the play-along will be very helpful–especially when I can play longer. I had already signed up for TAC before I started the 5-day challenge so I started the 30-day challenge on the same day. I’m having the same feeling when I repeat those lessons. I feel like I’ve come a long way in these last 5 days!!!

  8. Wow that was so much fun. When you did that intro play, I thought well Tony you lost me. I ain’t ever going to be able to do that. I wasn’t perfect but that was the most musical I felt I ever sounded in my life

  9. Day 5 was no celebratory experience. I couldn’t quite catch which strings to catch individually in order because it sems like you just rattle it off so matter of fact quickly. I’m not really feeling all that fulfilled, because it takes time and not being able to quite catch on leaves one feeling a bit lost and unfulfilled. I’m planning on doing the 30 day challenge because i already paid for it, but if things don’t get better I’ll be asking for a refund. Plus, do you ever respond to these emails individually?

  10. Great way to deconstruct a song! Seems like a smart method to improve beyond the beginner stage. Question: I found impossible to play the Play video on my iPad (apart from day 1 and 2). Is it a bug that can be fixed? They play well I. The phone but I use my tablet to practice and play guitar.

  11. Tony, After 5 days I’m gassed! I was starting to look for the door to get out. Fortunately for you,
I couldn’t find it. I just never have taken well to defeat so it looks like I have to stay in, just to redeem
    myself! Larry

  12. I took this challenge hoping to get fired up. Been member since 2021 but not made any progress due to time restraints and failure to utilize the program. Was hoping to get direction starting back and actually using program. This was a good overview of the program and how I should approach it. I must say I am very overwhelmed and discourage with my personal abilities. I can watch the training until i see what I need to do. But, actually getting my brain and fingers to work together using both hands to make it happen almost feel like an impossibility task. Making question if I can do this. The fact I can see what I need to do, makes feel if I practice enough I can finally get there. Yet, it is not a 10 minute commitment. lol I get it, I need to put in the time, seems in my case much more than most. Hehe I feel like I just went through the motions these 5 days as I was never able to successfully play any of the assignments. I believe I can, but not sure how much time it will require. However, it does give my new things to play and learn from. Being a member already and paid until May 2026 I will keep working on it hoping it becomes fun at some point. I will renew in May 2026. Trying to reach the goal of actually playing, having fun and not just practicing to learn. It is just crazy to me how hard this is for me. I am normally a fast learner at most everything. I will be starting with the 30 days to play, then 5 Day Routine and on to daily challenges. Couple questions about the program. I felt that during the 5 day challenge if I learned anything it was a win. But, yet moving on to the next day without being able to play the previous days lesson really meant I did not learn it obviously. How should I look at the course? Move on with course flow or hold up to learn? Meaning, do I just get what I can and move on? I’m not sure that means over time, I will get better a each of the 5 skills? I feel like I need to at least make it through the whole assignment for each day even if it’s a little messy to actually be learning? Honestly seems like the daily challenges will be going much faster than I can achieve success. Any tips on my best way forward?
    Thx V/R
    Nick

  13. Being invited to experience Tony’s Acoustic Challenge suggests a hands-on, immersive event focused on sound, rhythm, and musical skill—likely blending technical precision with creative expression.

  14. I had to take a couple days off. My fingertips are killing me. I can’t even press on a string. This 5-day challenge is now a 3 1/2-day challenge; take a couple off and finish 4 and 5. So it’s 7 days for me.

  15. Struggled today, first line I got down pretty easily, 2nd line is taking some work 3rd line I came off the rails completely lol… today’s challenge was a tough one for me. Will need to go through multiple times… having said that, these lessons are great, I’m further along than I imagined I’d be in 5 days. Fingers are sore for sure but I’m gonna keep going!

  16. Ok I have had my guitar sitting in its case for the past 20 yrs. I finally took it out and played around but then left it on the stand. Then I found TAC. So I tried the 5 Day Challenge. Thankfully I had some previous experience and understood the strings and some chord positions. But found it hard to master each days lessons before moving onto the next day. Its great to get daily lessons but what If want to work on a lesson for a few days before moving on? And I still don’t understand how the tab sheets work. Do you explain how to read them. I dont know which note is the up beat or down beat either. Just a little confused. If the program starts from scratch I think I will be able to keep up. Just not sure yet?

  17. Restarting the TAC program after 1 year of trying different methods. I haven’t found anything that keeps me coming back day after day like TAC does. Excited for a new beginning with Tony. already noticed after just 5 days that this time the jumpstart seems easier.
Forming a C chord is a struggle for me but I will continue to work on this. giddy-up…..let’s do this! (I’m a left handed player strumming a Fender Classic)

  18. Tony, I’m totally new and can’t do half of the material from this week well. That being said, I can hardly wait to start playing the next day and I attribute that to your excellent coaching abilities. Thank you for this week of successes and frustrations. I’m signing up after I send this and looking forward to seeing what the future holds!

  19. I just retired and I am brand new, so I really struggled each day and really was unable to keep up by halfway through and do the lesson properly even in 30 minutes. My frustration and a barrier to success is my struggles to reach some frets and to stay of an adjoining string. For example, on a G chord, I can’t seem to keep my finger on the 3rd fret of the low E off the A string, so it is flat. I will practice more over the weekend on these lessons and see if I think I should keep moving forward. I have enjoyed small successes but suffered big frustration.

  20. The day 5 challenge takes a big leap around about 10:30 in the video. The tab doesn’t seem to align at all.

  21. Many years ago I took guitar lessons with a teacher and only learned Mary Had a Little Lamb (Not the Buddy Guy version) on one string. I got discouraged and bought myself a book to Teach yourself Blues guitar and learned more with that in one day than I with a whole year of in person lessons. I jammed with friends and learned from playing with records and eventually life caught up.

No I am retired and enjoyed the laid back day challenge. I believe I am ready to commit at least 15 minutes daily (usually ends up being a 1/2 hour to an hour.

  22. I have done a lot of in person lessons and TAC feels so much better I am at home and no pressure … I appreciate the encouragement, the motivation, the multi tech options…. ie: tab, screen in screen, speed options ( I can’t often see the chord shape easily so TAB is the way to go…I really appreciate offering the TAB, Thank you Tony. I signed p for a year !!!

  23. I definitely improved. I spent an hour each day as I am very new and slow. I picked up some of the notes and made it thru parts of the song. I think I would need the 30 day beginner as a starting point. Need to learn the strings and notes a bit better as whenever you say fret on the d string for example I need to stop and think which is the d string. The tabular made me think of the notes more which is good as I can read music for piano. Just need a lot of work!

  24. Love this course. Unfortunately will not be able to enroll right now. I will be watching for other times to join……. Very, very worth it.

  25. Also, you should be able to go back to any lesson whenever you want for as long as you want as a paying subscriber.

  26. Tony,
Is it possible to stay on a challenge before moving on to the next or do the challenges automatically advance ever day?
    Frank

  27. Tony,
I want to join, but I’m concerned that I won’t be able to keep up each day. I know the challenges are small, but I sometimes need 2 or 3 three days for each challenge to feel some sense of progress. It is better to spend 10 minutes over the course of a few days, then more time in one day. How could that be dealt with considering challenges are weekly, Monday to Friday?
    Frank

  28. Its a decent little 5 day course, my tip would be when you do your play throughs – please count yourself in so we can play with you if we want to (in the lesson tab)

  29. I want to thank you Tony for giving me this Free opportunity to learn about your program, so thank you again. I feel I understand better now on the ways you like to teach and I do find it fun and challenging. I am coming from a program where I learned some chords and had to workout strumming patterns to learn song. it hit home I needed more and your program is it. I will be signed up tomorrow morning 100%.

  30. Loved this 5 course lesson, Easy to follow. Every time I didn’t think I could play what you taught us, I actually learned it.
It was fun and I enjoyed it. Can’t wait to play it smoother so I can sing the song along to it!

  31. Well, well, well, got me thinking. I go back to the Mel bay books. I took lessons for 6 months, that thought me what I like (not reading). These where the 70s I’ve just done my own thing since then. You have inspired me to tighten my playing skills (cleanup my sloopy just get by playing) and yes I have joined up for the ride.

  32. I have really enjoyed the week and to be playing cool bass line transitions in five days (albeit with sausage fingers and some imperfections) is so much fun. I also have enjoyed getting into a daily habit so I’ll be signing up for the annual membership

  33. It felt fast compared to what I’ve been doing on YouTube and the self paced books. I’m glad I went through the Bob Harris fingerpicking for beginners series and Guitar for Dummies because I would have been lost trying to find the chords along with everything else. I think the 30-Day Jumpstart would be much needed for me. I’m excited about learning this song. Amazingly, maybe, I was just working on walking bass lines in the Guitar for Dummies guide. This was so much more in depth and introduced me to the song that I was wanting to learn next. I need more than ten minutes per day, by far, but the benchmark kept me going. I’m looking forward to the weekend when I can focus on those (many) rough spots. I’m also looking forward to sharing my playing with my family. Maybe I can join in on some picking sessions soon.

  34. Tony! Great stuff! Bite-size and consumable. Good solid structure underneath. I’ve played and explored more in the last week than I have in years. I have hope that my guitar-playing can do more than just support my vocals. I’ve dabbled for over 50 years and have already made progress. I was initially put off by the internet pitch and some glitches with each page timing out before it opened but things have settled down and access is easy. I’ve signed up, played at least 80% of the five day challenge successfully, done a few challenges (mostly successfully knowing that I can always do better next time), reviewed the basics in the 30 day challenge, and actually had some success with muting (a previously mysterious technique). Thanks!

  35. Ten minutes turns into an hour! This is great, I’m actually playing this tune, and enjoying it, though still rough. I can’t play any more today. My ring finger and pinky are tortured. More tomorrow!

  36. Really enjoyed this week. Do I learn a new song each week? Do all lessons stay available for the length of my subscription?

  37. Playing on a library borrowed guitar (Yamaha F-310)
Good challenge, found day 2 really trough and day 5 super hard, but working on it…hope the email link stays live so I can keep practicing this stuff.
