  2. Playing from Alanson, Michigan (northeast of Petoskey)! Been wandering from teacher to teacher and find Tony’s way the best. Dabbling for 5 years. Haven’t mastered it yet. Just want to have fun!

  3. I am from Winter Haven Florida. I have played guitar in the past. Took some lessons and learned more form a few friends that were in a band. Learned by being taught songs similar to what you method appears to be. Started again today for the first time in over 35 to 40 years. Fingers are sore after just 10 minutes. Some unintentional dubbing of strings. Time is short for me so I have to make time. Hope to strengthen finders with the practice.

  4. How is someone supposed to do these daily challenges if you are a complete beginner? I don’t know anything about the different chords. It actually turns me away from joining TAC.

  5. Thanks Tony. At 75 I know how to play many campfire songs but what I really want is to learn how to play songs better. So little pieces of advice from you can go a long way with my playing effort.
Curry from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
    Thanks again

  6. Andrew from Oxford, England. I used to play a lot when in my late teens and early twenty’s then life got very busy… I’m now 68 and need some help getting started again. Some of the old skills still exists, most don’t! I’ve just done Dan 1 of the 5 day challenge. Hoping TAC will be the help I need.

  7. Ben From Denver. I have been “journeying” for about a year and a half. I enjoy the platform, was a member some time ago. I found that if I missed a day, it was difficult or I didnt just have the knowledge to go back and find it. Also if it takes me a few days or a week to get the first part down, I am already behind because I have missed the following days lessons. It was frustrating.

  8. I’m back sampling these sessions after a year or two on then off of Tony’s program (though I have kept practicing). I like the idea of learning a familiar song of a favorite artist. The alternative G-C chord fingering is a cool thing to learn, and a challenge to adapt to.

  9. Great session. Appreciate the tips to speed the learning process. A retiree getting back into learning and playing. Watching from Kansas City.

  10. Hi Tony,
I’m struggling, still on the first lesson, getting a bit better but barely noticeable.
I’m very new at this, my fingers are quite tender, I’m still building calluses which limits my play time also my fingers seem like they’re too short,
Not giving up, just think you should know what level I’m at.
thinking maybe too early for your challenge. second lesson is already available, but I’m not there yet.

  11. hi Tony been with tac before it was 119.00 now its 197.00 give us seniors a break if we sign up again can we get it at 119.00 good selling point what do you think just asking senior man in Fla

  12. I am aware that this is a free lesson and most of the time one doesn’t get something for nothing, but I thought, after listening to Tony numerous times, I thought that I would at least be able to understand what is going on. I’m not sure what chords I’m supposed to be playing? It looks like C and G, but what is the very first 4 strums?

    1. I am sorry – I was confused as to which video to watch and clicked on the watch free class, which took me to Tony’s infomercial. I was totally confused! I think I have it now.

  13. Wow! Im loving this new way of G to C. Who knew? Thanks for sharing! My first TAC from Buena Park, California.

  14. Holy Crap that was hard! This was my first time on your site. I’m 56 years old and tried and failed twice earlier in life to learn guitar. That new way of going G without the index finger was hard (my brain still remembers the traditional way to do G from 12 years ago. Going from your new way to do G to the new C chord you taught looks easy but was not as easy as it looked.

  15. Hi Tony, Dave from Golden,Colorado. Turned 73 this year and looking to expand my horizons. Getting the right fingers on the correct frets and strings is challenging. Hope it gets easier.

  16. Dave from Canton Ga. I also did TAC a few years ago. Then stopped. And no surprise still playing the same things with no improvement. Taking the 5 day challenge in hopes it inspires me to keep it going. Thank T for offering the challenge.

  17. Thanks Tony, I find it interesting, this new approach to the guitar. I’ve been playing guitar off and on since my teens and have had a few dry spells in my playing.

  18. I live in Lakewood Washington. I am sorry but I never heard of this song, so it is exciting to be able to learn a new song and to practice with you. I have been trying to learn how to play for a long time. I know some things and when I practice with you on this exercise, I find it hard to remember to put my pointing finger on the C note B string of the C chord because I am used to removing my third finger off of the G note E string to go to the C note on the A string. They seem to go together. I am enjoying playing along and being able to change up the speed so I can practice getting it right. Thanks 1st day with you.

  19. Howdy from Chicago. I did one year of TAC a long time ago and took classes at OTSoFM but decided to take a session off. One thing led to another and my guitar has been collecting dust for 2 years. I thought I’d give it a other try when I saw the TAC email.

  20. Markofcourse from St Pete, Fl. Day 1 of first ever TAC.
Great song to learn. You say it is a great campfire song that everyone knows but I am amazed at how many people I asked over the weekend who have never heard of it. Guess I’m hanging out with the wrong people. For Sue below, try ultimate guitar, they have the chords and lyrics to everything.

  21. Hello from SW Florida. I’ve been attempting to learn to play Guitar since I was 13 yrs old. I’ll be 70 in April. It seems I have a hard time staying dedicated to learning and most of all practicing. I’m hoping this will keep me on track to becoming a better player.

  22. Hi Tony
Thanks so much for sharing your expertise to help us struggling guitarists. I have been playing for some time but not progressing much. I am here from just outside Tulsa OK in Bixby. Again thank you!

  23. Hello Tony, Houston, Tx here, first time in the acoustic challenge. So far it sounds great. Thanks for the challenge.

  24. Coming to you from Wasilla, AK. Several years ago I took a year or two of TAC lessons beginning with some basics, chords basics, etc. I still receive emails, saw the challenge and thought I’d give it a go to discover the ease or difficulty in the lessons. Looking forward to the week.

  25. I’m in Athens, GA. I’ve watched some of your other videos so I guess this isn’t my first time. I’m 69 and just having fun in my music room.

  26. I’m off work this week and decided to give this a try since I’ve been wanting to learn how to play my acoustic guitar for a while. I’m checking in from Chester, NY and have been singing in local bands for the last 18 years. I’d like to add something more and get back to performing.

  27. Hey Tony,
Session one, beginner from Arizona. My achilles heel has been chord changes. I find them difficult for my old bones. I need lots of practice (and some stretching) to go from G-C/G-D smoothly and quickly in time.

  28. Hello I’m Matt from Ontario Canada.
I am trying this challenge for the first time.
I’m certainly not a beginner so I’m not going to say this is very difficult.
I am a noodler though so I need something to keep me focused and disciplined.

  29. Hi Tony. Session 1. I have some Tabs experience but this is the first real lesson. Nice job. I have broken my right wrist 2ce, so it is hard to turn over my wrist without some pain. I find that if i go from a “normal” G to a “normal” C that is easier for me. I’ll hang in there and find a way to keep up and improve. Thanks for this chance.

  30. Strumming from Cotuit, MA on Cape Cod. First time back in about a year but have completed almost a years worth of lessons from TAC over the years. Happy to be back!

      1. Maybe James (if you’re a never ever before beginner). But if you know anything at all about G and C chords, then you can be an “advanced” player. But it does take prolonged concentration in stages: Stage 1 – Begin with the G that Tony taught, then move only your middle finger from string 5 to string 4, back and forth – a lot. Then (Stage 2) only lift your index finger from string 2 and back onto string 2 again – a lot. Stage 3, at the same time you move your middle finger from string 5 to 4, also drop your index onto string 2 – voila, a (modified) C chord. Finally Stage 4 – (the opposite of Stage 3) – at the sme time you move your middle finger from string 4 back to 5, also lift your index from string 2. You’ve done it congrats! You’re now officially “advanced”. Keep on playin’ – in tiny stages.

  31. Hello, Tony and everyone else on the site here. My first session time with Tony’s Acoustic Challenge. I’m retired and now live in Arlington, TX. I haven’t been very disciplined in my playing routine and I am trying this to see if I like it and if it will help establish better learning habits.

  32. Good Morning Tony,
Thanks for the lesson, good pace and description. I’m the quintessential year-over-year beginner. I stop for a while then start up again. This seems to be a good way to break that bad habit. I’m 69 and live in upstate NY.

  33. Good morning Tony. Thank you for these lessons. I’m sure 74 years old and am trying to learn to play and not having much success. I’m sure your lessons will help. Elkin, NC

  34. Hi Tony! I’m watching from outside Washington DC. I’’m trying The Acoustic Challenge for the first time.

    1. In stead of positioning your ring finger on its tip, flatten it out slightly so it gently touches the A string (as well as the E string of course).
