Hi Terry, I have difficulty too, but basically play notes of the scale against the backing track, and if it sounds good, it is good. You can play any notes or chords that you think sound good, and not in any particular order. Just noodle with the notes of the scale at first, and then as you become more accomplished you can embellish.
