    Here is a Martin site where you can enter your Martin Guitar serial # and it will give you the year. It also has all kinds of other great info wrt specs, etc. on Martin guitars.

    So, I entered your serial # and it came up as 1928 which we know is wrong as they didn’t start making the D-41 until 1969. So, the serial # is legit, but it does not belong to this guitar, or some part of the Serial # is missing. It all sounds quite suspect.

    Just for fun I entered the serial #s for my D-35 and D-16 and the years were spot on.
