  • 30 days to play +

Posted by Kitsman on February 20, 2022 at 4:10 pm

I just got started 3 days ago and am beginning with “30 days to play” which makes sense to me. While I am doing that, though, the daily exercises are appearing, and from what I understand, are only available for a month. CAN I STOP THEM while I do 30 days to play, otherwise they will pile up into an insurmountable mountain…

@Kitsman Welcome to the TAC community! There’s no rule against doing both the 30 days to play and the daily challenges, but don’t worry about the daily challenges backing up or piling up while you work through the 30 days to play. The daily challenges have a weekly focus, meaning all lessons for a week build off the Monday lesson. Also, the weekly lessons repeat about every 8 months, and it’s okay to start the daily challenges any time. If you don’t have much experience with guitar, my suggestion would be to focus on just the 30 days to play. The dailies are available through a month, but they are not accessible when the new month starts on the 1st Monday of each month. But again, they will roll around in a few months.

@Kitsman, I’m with Loraine. Don’t worry about the daily challenges till you are done with the 30 day challenge. But, if you want them, you can down load them to your computer or favorite them. I look at the daily challenges like eating breakfast. If I miss breakfast one day, I don’t eat 2 breakfasts the next day to make up for it. Good luck with your guitar journey.

Hello @Kitsman – Welcome to the TAC Community! Both Loraine and Cadgirl provided sound advice about Daily Challenges. Let me offer several suggestions about getting the most out of your first months with TAC. I am just 11 months in with 322 playing sessions but still think of myself as a newbie.

If you have not viewed “TAC Quick Start” (find it in page 2 of Skills Course section) do so. Tony tells you how to navigate within TAC and set your own goals (intentions).

Second, I found these other skill courses very helpful prior to focusing primarily on Daily Challenges:

After completing “30 Days to Play” go to the skill course”5 Day Guitar Routine Challenge”. Tony instructs you HOW TO DO the Daily Challenges. This was added to TAC some months after I joined. I watched it recently and realized if I had done it early on, it would have helped doing my initial Daily Challenges!

Other skill courses to consider early on are the “Daily Stretch for Guitar”, “Fretting Hand Toolbox” and “Your Next Six Chords”.

Don’t go for perfection with any of these and especially Daily Challenges. If you are a guitar novice it takes time and consistency to build up the physical endurance and muscle memory as well as exposure to guitar techniques and the magic of the fretboard (“Fretboard Wizard” is a must once you go through the initial skill courses – I’ve done it twice and likely will do it again). Tony indicated FW 2.0 is to be released this year.

Lastly, I encourage you to attend the next 90 Day Progress Party on April 6. It is really fun to interact with Tony live and have a small group discussion with fellow TAC members. It allows you to reflect on what you have already accomplished and set personal goals for the next 90 days.

I congratulate you @Kitsman for reaching out for advice from those of us sharing the TAC experience, each at our own pace and in our own unique way.

    Play on!

@Guitargeezer-Jack , I just found the 5 day guitar routine challenge myself. This would be a big help to newbees. Explains the Monday – Technique, Tuesday-Guitar, etc. SHowed where the tab was and favorite button.

Yes, @Cadgirl, it’s like the GPS to find your bearings in the Daily Challenges. Although that course would have really helped me back eleven months ago when I started TAC, I found completing it recently fun to do.

@Kitsman – One other thing that has keep me on track is filling out a “Weekly Progress Tracker” for all the 48 weeks since my start in TAC. As weekly Daily Challenges repeat, I am able to compare my initial attempts with my present ability with the lessons. Provides a benchmark. (The form is part of the “Guitar Journal” link for download.)

@Kitman – Great replies in terms of steps to follow, plus encouragement to make TAC your own (whether its pace, challenges or otherwise)! I also appreciated the clarity and insights from @Loraine, @Guitargeezer-Jack and @Cadgirl. Nicely affirmed the path that I’ve been taking for the initial “30 Days to Play” and beyond.
