  • 90 Day Goal 👍

Posted by BobGarrity1 on August 1, 2021 at 10:23 am

Set a goal to perform Oh Danny Boy for my mother in law’s 99th birthday. She has 100% Irish heritage and has always loved this tune along with her late husband. Inspired by Eva Cassidy’s rendition, this was a challenging tune for me with finger picking that was complementary and not at all sounding like the melody. <div>

The first video is a snippet of the actual bday performance (sans fumble and restart).

The second video is better audio capture at a TAC Virtual Open Mic.

I’m happy to say that I was able to meet the goal and give all credit to the TAC routine of daily practice and chunking out the learning curve … all while having fun! Thank You Tony and the entire TAC Community!

Very nicely played @BobGarrity1 👏👏👏 Great rendition👍👍 That one always brings a tear to my eye. So I heard someone ask at the VOM about your mother-in-law’s reaction but the video cut off😮before we got to hear your answer. Just curious🤔

      Thank You Bill!

She was her usual generous and appreciative self saying, “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You”. I couldn’t see her from my vantage point but, someone told me they saw a tear in her smiling Irish eyes.

My daughter set me up with having my grandkids (running around in the background) throw coins at me afterwards. Guess I’m a “pro” now 😂🤣

I am sure your special gift to her is most appreciated and brought back Irish family memories for her. Nicely done with all the activity going on in the yard! 🍀

Yes Guitargeezer, she is quite proud of her 100% Irish heritage; maiden name Kearny, married name McHugh. And as one of the most gentle and sweet woman I’ve known, she has that Irish twinkle in her eyes☺

      Thanks!

Albert_d that’s a good one for sure. Found “Finnegan’s Wake”! The lyrics tell quite the tale. Thanks again!
