Ain’t No Sunshine – scale tabs vs diagrams
I looked at online sources to find the 5 Am pentatonic scale positions in diagram forms so I could match them up with the 5 TAB forms in today’s challenge. I only found the third one (58, 57, 57, 57, 58, 58). Can anyone explain why? What am I missing?
(btw, with the TAB as an aid I can play the first three positions easily with fingers and ok with a flat pick. I’m slower on forms 4 and 5 but they’re coming along).

I’m not sure why some scales are easier to find than others. But I made a graphic for myself of the ones Tony shows in that challenge that I’m happy to share.

This Improvisation Challenge is dealing with the Am Pentatonic scale based 5 different chord SHAPES described in the CAGED system. The first line is the Am shape, the next are the Gm shape, the Em shape, the Dm shape, and finally the Cm shape. Your source may only have been showing the Em shape which is used by a lot of players.

Albert, thanks for your attempt at explaining a reply to my queery. I’m embarrassed to say that even after having watched Tony’s caged system lesson in FW many, many times, it just hasn’t penetrated my thick skull – and unfortunately neither did your explanation. I’m going to watch the caged lesson yet again – hope springs eternal!

Thanks for your graphic Scott, I’m glad to have it. But I’m still puzzled that I couldn’t find “your” graphic in the online sources I checked. Unfortunately, Albert’s reply that followed yours provided an explanation that went way over my head. Thanks again.
