Small Win here on the non-barred chords, the barred not so much. Have yet to have any success with barred chords from the get go. My choice all along has been to move on to other things, so I could keep my consistency string going. I was able to get the pattern and do it to a point, although need a lot of work on hitting all the strings on the ups.

Hoot Hoot @Stickmaker! Getting the Chords down is a great! As for Barred Chords, You might try putting a Capo on your fretboard. It will be a lot easier if you had the capo on the 4th fret. Just to get the shape down and work through the buzzing strings. Give it a try and post how it went. Good luck. Also a great win, keep them coming!

Thanks Cadgirl, I know what a capo is but that’s about it. Any suggestions on brand, model, or whatever?

Great wi @Stickmaker ! I agree with @Cadgirl about trying a capo higher on the neck, and then practicing your barre chords. I have a difficult time with A shaped barre chords due to finger strength and the bend of my finger falls right on the B string creating a gap, which prevents me from being able to barre the B string, but I compensate by using my pinky on that note.

my killer is the F Barre. All will sound great till I get to one string and it’s dead! Not really dead, but a dull thud. I try all the roll of my finger for the Barre and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I guess in time i’ll get the strength in my index finger. But, for now, it’s hit or miss. There is a ‘skill course’ on Barre chords, @Stickmaker have you tried that?

Cadgirl, I have seen the course, but have been working on other courses where I am likely to have better success and keep my overall daily consistency going. Plan to try it at some point.

Thanks Loraine, I too have a bent finger from a dislocation years ago, but I can’t do barre chords with any of the other fingers either.

@Cadgirl I have taken the barre chord course, and it definitely is worthwhile. It didn’t solve my problem with the A shaped barre chords and the bend of my finger not going flat though. I’ll just keep working at it.
