Hello, Newbie here. On the Boogie woogie. Tony starts E open, down, up A up, down up. I am finding it easier to go down on the start of A. Does it matter or stay the course. Also, my pinkie faces in towards my hand and is a bugger to hit that 4 th fret. Its always been an issue so I just move my hand. I cannot stretch that finger out. Any ideas Thanks

    Hi Michael,

Welcome to TAC. If I remember correctly, the Boogie challenge is to get used in using the Pick in an up & down motion along with accuracy. This is an introduction so do what is comfortable for you. As time goes on, revisit the lesson later to refine your skills and incorporate what Tony taught if you want. As for the 4th fret, you’re not the only one, so if you have to move your hand that is fine. I can’t reach either. Under the skill section, there are hand exercises to aid you to improve your reach. As you keep doing the challenges, you’ll find in time your reach gets better. Hopefully this helps you and again welcome!

Try the Tony way first.then do it your way.as Tony says,”if it sounds good,it is good”. At least you are exposed daily to different avenues. Which route you take is ultimately up to you

have short-ish fingers, so I’ve tended to do the same. However, since
working on barre chords I’ve found that my thumb position makes a
helluva difference on finger span. With my thumb in line with the first
finger I can’t reach the 4th fret (low E-string), but if I shift my
thumb up the neck (towards the bridge) between the ring and middle
fingers all 4 frets are do-able. It certainly sorted my ‘big’ F barre
chord. Obviously I don’t know how bent your pinkie is, but I hope this
    can help.

an aside Michael, I have the same issue with the pinkie on my left
(picking) hand, it bends maybe 15 degrees inwards. It turned out (in
    2017) that I had early onset Dupuytren’s
Contracture; luckily I found a clinic in Hamburg, Germany that was a
pioneer in non-surgical treatment using X-rays. They managed to stop the
condition in its tracks, sadly not reverse it though.
