    OK, capo course question!

I’m not sure I follow. On the tab, it shows the first measure of each
line with no capo, then the next two with the capo at certain locations.
The fingering shows we are doing certain chord shapes at those capo’d
    (capoed?) positions. From what Tony
said, each different capo position should result in the same Key and
chord, just a different shape. But looking at the notation line, that
doesn’t appear to be the case. Or maybe it is, and the bottom note isn’t the note designating the key. What am I missing?

Regarding keys, how do you know where to place the capo to get the key you want, or, if the capo is placed at such and such a fret, how do you know what the key is? Counting up from the nut to the capo doesn’t seem to be working for that.

Barbara, your 1st question- I believe refers to the “root ” of a chord being the lowest bass note as root and also serves to name the chord, but the “root” is not always the lowest bass note.

Hope that helps with your 1st question.

Thanks for your reply, Rick, but that just generated more questions…How do we know when the root note isn’t the lowest note?
