  • David's TAC Routine with Daily Stretch Cheatsheet

Posted by davefive on July 26, 2021 at 12:51 pm

    1. # days? 7; focused weekdays, noodling weekends

    2. When? Morning to get my 10m then full session in the evening
    • Mornings = Yamaha Silent Acoustic – so I don’t wake anyone 🙂
    • Evenings = Seagull Maritime SWS – because it sounds awesome

    3. Where? The music nook in my bedroom

4a. Pre-TAC Life? Fumbling from course to course, little progress, lots of frustration

4b. Post-TAC Life? Feeling focused, inspired, and excited for the week-to-week progress I see
My kid actually commented a couple days ago that my guitar sounded good – high praise

Morning Routine (my tiny habit minimum – right after I wake up)
    1. Tony’s Daily Stretch for Guitar (10m)
    2. Listen to a live version of the song I’m learning to burn it into by brain (3m)
    3. Run through the Daily TAC or Skill I’m doing (10m)

Evening Routine (optional – I don’t get mad at myself if it doesn’t happen, but it usually does)
    1. Play current TAC/Skill
    2. Play the favorites I’ve marked on TAC (try to keep it < 2-3)
    3. Play the song I’m learning

    Cheatsheet for Tony’s Daily Stretch
I couldn’t remember all of the warmups and stretches so I made a printable cheatsheet by taking screen grabs of Tony doing them. It’s what you see in the photo on the wall above my keyboard.

Hi @davefive , Let me start by saying welcome to TAC. I think that you’ve made an excellent choice by joining this site to help yourself move forward with your guitar journey👍🎸👍

It looks like you have a very nice, well thought out TAC Routine. I like the stretching cheatsheet – I usually stick to the ones that involve my neck/shoulders and the fretting hand/fingers😱 From the photo, it looks like you’re well equipped, so you might be ready to jump right into the VOMs (virtual open mics). Even if you don’t play in one and just watch/listen, it’s awesome to watch other TAC members perform live. Also, I wanted to mention Fretboard Wizard, it’s a great course that contains guitar based music theory and a whole lot more. A lot of “light bulb” moments with that! Can’t wait to hear your Seagull Maritime, I’m sure she sounds as awesome as she looks🤩

Enjoy your journey and have fun

Thanks Bill. I’ve started into the FBW already and am at the learning a song’s key lesson now and am quite enjoying it.

I don’t know what (or really where) the virtual open mics are. I just looked around the site and didn’t see them. Can you let me know how to get involved there?

@davefive , when you’re on the main Forums page, at the top you’ll see all the pictures with the titles of the various Forums (example, the Forum that you’ve posted on is titled “Show Off Your Routine”). Click on the “Play For Us” Forum. At the top of the new screen, you’ll find information on the VOM’s and a link to more detail. Click on that link and you’ll find more detailed information

Above is the link that I was trying to describe – Good luck Dave and remember to always have fun when playing guitar!

    Hi @davefive,

thank you for the cheatsheet. I guess you hardly need it anymore after creating it and optimizing every little detail 😉. I just put the sheet on top of my “90 Days Goal Folder” to remind me to start my morning routine with stretching

    Greetings from Germany

    Kristin

PS: You seem to be a very well organized person. Tony highly recommended “Tiny habits” written by BJ Fogg. It might be a good read for you.

Thanks for the book tip. Yes, I’d read that before but it didn’t stick until now with TAC. It’s been useful.

@davefive , A great Routine! I really like the Morning Routine of listening to the song. I’m amazed at how far off I can be in playing a song. I think i’m going to add this to my routine too. Thanks
I just pulled in your cheat sheet!! Fantastic. Thanks again.

Glad you like it.. I do actually still look at it when sitting in my music nook doing my stretches, it helps me not have to worry about missing anything.

Your “Tony’s Daily Stretch for Guitar” pictorial is excellent. 👍👍 I did a narrative version that kept me on track but the “cheat sheet” you developed provides a concise memory jogger (confession time – I laminated it and now perform the exercises when in the shower). It printed beautifully so I also have it now at the front of my TAC ring binder with Tony’s download materials. Thank you @davefive for sharing this very helpful tool!

davefive, your Tony’s cheatsheet is a helpful infographic that I keep around for my daily stretch. I need the exercises! Took me too long to find this critical skill course!

Wow…way more organized than I could ever be! Thanks for the cheatsheet. I’m really needing to remind myself to do that and this will help.
