One thing has been very helpful in my routine. Before watching the Daily Challenge, I print off a copy of the day’s tab and try to play through it once or twice. (It ain’t pretty!)

This gives me an idea of where Tony is going in the lesson and makes it much easier to keep up.

I am still playing all this by ear or from the video. I know should be using the tab but I find it really hard to get my head around it.

Now I’m the complete opposite of @Moonhare , I need the tab to make sense of everything. However, I typically follow the video first, but then I’m usually lost trying to remember what Tony shows us, so I can’t wait to get to the tab.

I find that I like to print out the TAB before I watch the video, too. I follow along and actually take notes! Things like: start with the middle finger on the 5th fret, then slide the index finger to the 5th fret for the next set of notes, etc. I also write out the notes on the Key Chord days and figure out why a 7th chord can be substituted for a Dim chord……again and again and again! Sometimes I add the note names (A, B, C..) which helps me see the patterns Tony mentions in the video.

    It all helps.
