Emperor’s New Clothes..
Posted by Tuckamore on April 1, 2021 at 10:07 amHas Anyone Heard From Tony or Does He Know
What’s Going On? I am trying hard to remain positive about the TAC
changes and I started the week off with a great deal of enthusiasm about
the new site; but, the painfully slow page load times, visual layout
(including washed text colors on white background), lack of
communication on where to find things (I have stumbled across a few
guides, but this should be clear from the moment you login), and general
failure in the rollout is pushing me away from TAC. Not something I
thought could or would ever happen. I know the tech team is working
hard, but someone needs to get control of this thing. Good luck!was-Dan replied 3 years, 10 months ago 6 Members · 8 Replies -

@Tuckamore, hear from Tony? yes. On point and responsive?, mostly.
I hope that the growing pains the site is experiencing don’t drive you away from the one thing that the site is doing well, and that is providing guitar learning. The lessons are working, and yes, the colors and contrasts are not what someone like you, or me, would choose, but things are there that are planned to be there moving forward.
When I joined TAC, it was to get control of my hands and guitar strings, and yes the computer is the vehicle, and I gained a lot of help from others, but I am gaining control of my hands and guitar strings under the new Website, and hope, but cannot predict, its foibles will resolve.
It ain’t easy, but it’s happenin’. I hope you allow it to help you continue to succeed.

Funny but when I joined TAC that was definitely part of the reason. The other reasons were to get more familiar with the fretboard and because of the whole “guitar geeks unite” idea of a community and jam clubs. Well, I’ve learned a ton of theory and now, a few years later, I certainly have a better grasp of neck geography. Unfortunately it now seems that the community aspect is not being nurtured (quite the opposite) with a lack of the cohesiveness that I’d seen the past few years. I’m not leaving TAC but have found I definitely log in and post a whole lot less, am having difficulty navigating (and let’s not even talk about my retinas being melted by the new scheme) and falling away from TAC in a way I could never have imagined even a month ago. I’ll still attend open mics (again, not really supported by TAC) and practice my 10 minutes a day but these are now basically the only things I’m taking from TAC and that’s just sad when it used to be a whole lot more. I’ve been holding back on commenting as any new rollout is sure to have issues but from what I can see and what we’ve been told I don’t expect a whole lot. Time will tell.

The main factor that made me join TAC was the potential to establish a regular guitar routine – and it has certainly helped me do that over the last year. However, the great community I found at TAC was an essential element which helped me to maintain my routine, because being part of the community was really fun and pushed me to stretch myself and get out of my comfort zone – and so I was motivated to become a ‘lifer’. Now I feel pretty short-changed – the community seems to be disintegrating, the site is so slow and the forums are so clunky in their new format that I feel pretty disengaged – in fact, since the new site opened, I think the Community Support forum is virtually the only one I’ve visited, other than hunting around to find the VOM links.
As a ‘lifer’, I can’t vote with my feet, but I fear that my engagement with TAC may simply become a somewhat monotonous round of the daily challenges and little else. Right now, I can’t find the enthusiasm to attend any of the events like the monthly guitar party, because if I have to listen to any false bonhomie about the wonderful new website, I will probably throw my laptop across the room ……

I really believe there is something going on that has forced this move. Think we should just relax a bit and see what Tony is going to do. Yes he is watching. I saw a post a bit back. No I normally don’t get into the forums. I found the old forum cumbersome at best. But I really didn’t try to figure it out.
