Even if I’m not very good
I guess this is a small to medium win. I’ve been playing after a 50 or so year hiatus now about 2 and a half years starting from pretty close to scratch. One thing that has encouraged me recently is my stunningly beautiful guitar. It is a Yamaha dreadnaught variation called an Ll16d. It has solid spruce top and gorgeous rosewood back and sides,
. The tone…. The tone is fantastic.not a good Martin sound with the fantastic thump but a balanced sound of its own that forces me to pick it up and play as much as I can . So this is my long winded way of encouraging even beginners to go for it. Invest in a really good sounding guitar and you will find that your playing improves by leaps and bounds!

Yamaha’s have a beautiful sound. I have a very inexpensive one I received for graduating the GV4 program and the sound well exceeds what it would have cost.

Love the pic John. It’s always cool to see a larger photo of someone. Is that your band? How long have you been playing. What’s your favorite genre to play? Fingerpicking, Flatpicking strumming, hybrid?

No, that’s our G4V class, guy in the center was our instructor. I try to mix up flat/strum and fingerpicking, love the Blues, John Prine, lots of stuff actually. It’s a wide swath!

I am pleasantly surprised how unique each instrument played (whether cheap gui , expensive guitar, resonator, ukulele or banjo) is. Each calls its own sound to convey and express the emotion of the song and the player. And calls the player to continue to play it. And in return rewards the player with some sense of fulfillment.
But, to your point, investing in an instrument is motivation. For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.

Are any of you playing electric? I can’t be the only one…
I’m not investing yet, I found an inexpensive Strat clone online that had excellent reviews and chose that for my instrument. I love rock music and while rock often has acoustic elements, I ultimately want to play electric so why not learn on one?
I plan to reward myself with a more formidable specimen once I’ve completed 360 days.
