Hello fellow tacsters, Well my doc has finally said I can start playing my guitar a little. I had shoulder surgery back in Oct. It was pretty rough, but I think I may be getting back to basics. I am finding it difficult to practice very long. My neck starts to hurt after a few minutes. Any advice on exercises I can do that will help with this? I find that I have forgotten quite a bit, so pretty much starting over. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome back Janet. Take it slow and steady while easing back into playing. You’ll pick up things quickly enough. As for your neck, do stretches up and down and side to side. There is one stretch I swear by, but I’m not sure I can explain it. Hold head straight, and the tuck chin in while stretching neck downward. Ask your doctor for neck and shoulder stretches that you can do before and after playing.

I agree with @Loraine. Take it easy and talk to your doctor about stretches. I am sure you hated taking that much time off. Have you ever considered slide guitar? The kind where you place the guitar on your lap and use a slide to find the notes?
