  • Fingerpicking formats – Pima vs Pim – which is better?

Why are there so many fingerpicking formulas- PIM, PIMA. Tony teaches PIM but everywhere else I see PIMA.

Is one better than the other or is this just another flavor to choose from?

    Thanks

@Happy-Jack Yes, there are a multitude of picking patterns. They define how a somg wiwll sound, and there are typically 1-3 patterns that might work for a particular somg.

PIMA is just the acronym for Thumb, Indes, Middle and Ring fingers. Most pick patterns will incorporate all four, but it is not uncommon to see a pick pattern that includes just PIM, Thumb, Index, Middle. It is just a preference, I think.

Ok sounds like there are many choices and all are correct depending on the piece. Thanks for your reply and perspective. John
