For Valentines Day – Original “You Got One”
Posted by TMutter on February 14, 2025 at 5:51 pmIn the studio working up some new songs. Here is one fitting for valentines day. It is called “You Got One”. We all want a someone. They come in many forms, friends, partners, parents, siblings. You can never tell your someone too many times how much they mean to you. Side note the little riff from F sliding up 2 frets came out of a TAC lesson somewhere. And then messing around came up with the chord progression which hung around until lyrics showed up one day.

Wow! That was awesome! Great job on the picking and great tone on the vocals. Closed my eyes and thought I was hearing Dave Matthews.

@cwglazemusic Wow back at ya – you are so kind. I am glad you liked it and I am a big DM fan so what a nice compliment. He is an amazing guitar player and performer. I try to some of his songs but most have such wild chord shapes I have trouble getting in those positions . Thanks for listening !

Such a well-crafted song both musically and lyrically. I appreciate the nuanced chords with alternate voicings to keep it interesting. It is a joy to accompany you on this journey. I am headed to NOLA for Mardi Gras next week. It is my first time back since I was there in 2020 when COVID broke out. It causes me to think of our TAC journey leading up to and through all that Zooming and other surreal musical sharing. But back to point… great original song.

@albert_d Thanks ! I was talking with someone about this the other day – how TAC during the pandemic really served as a life line for me and resulted in a whole new path of writing and performing music that I was not anticipating. Ihope you have a great time in New Orleans ! I have never been there and it is on my near term travel bucket list along with Nashville. Enjoy !

This is very wonderful @TMutter . It sure has a “Mr. Bojangles” vibe to it, love it!
I sure hope you get back to playing before too long, your audience must be missing you!

@petelanger well you have a great ear ! I wrote this song several years ago but it was not until I was learning Mr Bojangles this summer that I realized I had pretty much used the exact chord progression. I have a few variations of shapes but it is essentially the same. Then I went on to find that chord progression in other songs as well. Nothing new under the sun I guess !

That’s right, almost all music by now is “inspired”! There are only so many ways to arrange 12 notes! But when I started listening to this bit, it sounded familiar right away!
So many great artists in the past “borrowed” from classical composers and other periods during the past century (20th)

thanks Braden, I wish I had a video of my daughter singing harmony on the song – she really adds great richness to it. I hope to get that on video someday !
