1.) How many days per week do you play?

When I joined TAC, I committed to 5 days a week (at least 10-15min). What I have found though, is that I wind up playing 7 days a week (30min – 1hr). It’s easy to lose track of time! ๐Ÿ™‚

2.) What time of day do you play?

My original goal was for first thing in the AM, just before work. Given this last year and the whole family doing work/school from home, this changed to right after I get off work (around 5pm). Both my son (11) and daughter (7) have started taking guitar lessons on Wed/Fri from 2-4PM (yay!). These two days, I am able to sneak in a little more time!

    3.) Where do you play?

I play in our living room, either on the couch or at my desk. Typically at the desk, as I am following along TAC on my laptop. I also take the guitar with me anytime we travel. The family enjoys singing along to my basic 3 chord strumming! ๐Ÿ™‚

4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Honestly, I didn’t have a guitar life before having a guitar routine. Growing up, I had my mothers classical guitar that she learned on as a teenager. I thought this was the guitar I would learn Metallica, Nirvana etc… on. Unfortunately, with no direction, it just sat there. For Christmas, as a teenager myself, I received an electric guitar. Similar aspirations, but again… nothing came to fruition. I did retain one simple song from the Earnie Ball “How to Play Guitar Phase 1 Book”. Fast forward to 2013, a friend gifted me an acoustic guitar. I bet you can guess what happened next! I found a few online courses, but nothing really stuck. Come December 2019, I decided I needed to give the guitar another shot. I went back to the same online guitar courses, this time a bit more motivated, I committed to a 3 day a week routine. Things were going good, but thought, there has to be a better way. Then comes TAC in August of 2020! My routine was born. It absolutely helped me in three ways.

    1. It gave me something fun and new to look forward to each day.

    2. It helped me to learn things outside of my comfort zone. To learn both flat picking and finger picking has been great. I am a software engineer and I am always telling other programmers, you have to learn other languages. It’s the best way to get better at what you do. This TAC routine has done the same for me with guitar.

    3. It’s shown my two children that if you stick with it, you will get better! My son, who is also now learning… knows that he can pick up his guitar and jam with me when I start my daily routine. It’s become a great bonding time.

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?

Sparking water… not sure why, just refreshing to have something in between practicing or playing a song.
