How I TAC
1.) How many days per week do you play?
I’ve set a goal of practicing for at least 10 minutes a day and so far I’m on day I’ve only missed one day since I started 79 days ago (and that was only because I fell asleep putting my kid to bed). I’ve even left a guitar up at the ski condo so I didn’t have to keep carting mine up and back each trip.
2.) What time of day do you play?
I play every evening after the kids are asleep. This usually ends up being around 8pm. If I know I’m going to be doing something in the evening, I’ll find 10 minutes during the day time to play/practice.
3.) Where do you play?
I play in my office off the dining room. I have a little guitar corner and I use my iPad to do the lessons since I can set that on the music stand.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Before I joined TAC and created a routine, I had been trying to play guitar since, oh, age 8 maybe. I tried a number of times as an adult but never had any direction and couldn’t figure out where to start. The 30 Days to Play really helped give me a path to follow where I was able to see results pretty quickly. Implementing a routine has helped me in the following ways:
– I just know how and when I’ll spend time with my guitar. I get to pick it up every day even if it is only for 10 minutes and knowing that’s all I “have” to do makes it easier to be successful.
– Allowed me to see progress in small increments. Even when it feels like I’ve accomplished nothing and I want to say I’m horrible at guitar, I can stop and find one small thing that I can do now that I couldn’t do before. Those small things are starting to add up.
– I’ve had to prioritize what is important in my life. Playing guitar and eventually being able to share music with my family by playing for them is something that is important to me (and has been a dream of mine for a long time). In order to achieve that long term goal, I’ve had to ask myself what is more important. Do I sit and mindlessly watch TV each night or do I learn something new that is fun and challenging and helps me fulfill a dream. So far it has been easy to prioritize guitar over zoning out in front of the TV and so far I’m still having a lot of fun.
5.) Bonus Question: I don’t think I have one. I keep it pretty simple, just my iPad, my pick and my guitar.
