How I TAC
This is try number 6. I just finished trying to submit try number 5 post, but when I hit submit, it said that I was not logged in. This is testing my patience and I hope this will stand me in good stead as I continue my TAC journey. So here goes again.
1) How many days per week do I play?
I have only just joined your program at the beginning of the week. When I was completing my profile, I indicated that I would play 5 days per week. However, in just those 5 days, I have been so impressed with your program, that I am practicing every day.
2) What time of day do I play?
Again, when I was completing my profile, I indicated that I would play at 1:00 pm. While I still try to practice around that time, I am enjoying practicing so much that I play more often.
3) Where do I play?
Right now, I play in my office even though it is a bit small. I do have my computer here which is valuable in watching your videos and then practicing. I do think that as time goes on and I get better, I may play outside when the weather gets warmer if I know what it is I want to practice.
4) What was my guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped me?
I bought my current guitar (a Yamaha FG150) over 50 years. It is a good guitar and it is still going strong. New strings do help with the sound though. I took formal lessons for a semester in college (I’m not saying how long ago that was). Since then, I was picking my guitar up randomly and practicing some songs from my numerous songbooks and sheet music. Because my fingers got sore I always quit before I mastered any songs. I rarely strummed and preferred finger picking styles that I learned in college.
Three ways having a routine is helping me:
A) Having a routine and videos to learn from enhances my satisfaction and makes me want to play more and consistently. I am really enjoying taking your program – plus my finger tips are starting to get callouses.
B) I really enjoyed watching the April Progress Party although I didn’t join because it was on the first day I was enrolled. It is very helpful hearing what other people do for their routine. I will even use some of their ideas such as having a book that I can write in everyday I practice. I find the group forums very enlightening.
C) I love all the ways you have encouraging people to play whatever you are teaching. I started to do your Daily Challenge, but the pace was too fast and I found I couldn’t go back to redo a particular day. Instead I am following the 30 Days To Play Guitar Challenge program.
5) What non-guitar item is a must have when I play?
Depending upon the time of day I practice, I generally have a cup of coffee or a glass of water. I also like to have some munchies available like nuts.
