How I TAC
1.) How many days per week do you play?
I play Monday through Saturday and generally use Sunday as a day to rest my hands.
2.) What time of day do you play?
After an early cup or two of coffee I play guitar. I learn best in the mornings and find it is a great way to start off my days. The mornings are focused on warm up exercises and my daily TAC Challenge. Most days, I also play in the afternoon or evening; then I focus on playing/learning songs. I am retired so I have some flexibility with my days.
3.) Where do you play?
I play in a room towards the front of the house where I have my guitar and music stands. It has double windows so it gets nice morning light.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Joining TAC and establishing a routine has been a game changer for me. This year has been my very best year of TAC because I have remained focused on playing each day and completing my daily TAC challenges. Having daily challenges Monday through Friday gives me a reason to play every day. I don’t want to miss the opportunity to learn something new each day. This approach has made me appreciate the cumulative impact of daily practice. Even if I am only able to play for a short time it has a real impact on my overall ability to improve. The variety between the daily exercises each day also keep it very fresh and enjoyable. Although it doesn’t relate directly to the question above I do want to add that the community at TAC is amazing. It is filled with fellow guitar players who are very enthusiastic and supportive.
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
Maya, my beagle, joins me in the room as I practice. When I used to sing while playing she would howl, but now she just sleeps. My singing isn’t getting better she is just getting older … regardless I will still take this as a small win!
