1.) How many days per week do you play?

Typically, I play my guitar every day of the week. Since starting in November 2020, I have rarely missed a day. The amount of time I can devote to this varies, but I try to play at least an hour and often longer.

2.) What time of day do you play?

Normally I play in the morning. I try to start my day with the daily challenge and then move on to improving my technique by practising chords and scales. Often , I will pick up the guitar again at some point during the day and resume practice and maybe do some improvisation.

    3.) Where do you play?

I play in my office which is quiet and doesn’t interfere with anyone else in the household. I also often play later in the day in the living room where the afternoon light is good and the whole space is very comfortable.

4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).

I first obtained a guitar many years ago (?20 +). It is a Larivee. At the time, I had never played a guitar or had any musical training. A friend who plays the guitar took me to a local guitar shop and picked out a guitar that he felt would let me get started. I signed up for lessons, but did not relate to the instructor and with my very busy home and professional life I simply stopped trying after a few months. Two years ago I retired and I was busy completing various projects. My wife and I went on some longer trips ( months). Then covid arrived and gradually my world became very small. In November 2020 I somehow came across Tony’s website ( I think through Youtube) and I liked what I saw. I wanted information and teaching that would allow me to work at my own pace. Something I could keep revisiting until I got it right. I wanted to be able to have access at the time of day which worked for me and to be able to bring that world with me when I was able to travel again. Tony’s Acoustic Challenge has provided that for me. With the routine available through this program I have seen slow but consistent progress in my abilities and knowledge.

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?

My faithful Nike cap. Keeps my head warm (lost my hair in my early 20’s) and is the catalyst to say ” OK. This is a new day. Here we go.”
