How I TAC
1.) How many days per week do you play?
I’ve tried for many years to pick up the guitar and learn to play but never got past the basic open cowboy chords. I would have long stretches where I would not play at all. Since joining TAC I have found myself playing every single day. My practice sessions are held seven days a week and I’m not sure I could go a day without playing anymore.
2.) What time of day do you play?
I work from home so my practice sessions can happen sporadically throughout the day in between meetings. I do have a designated time of the day where I sit down and practice, which is generally from 5 to 6 PM. This is my focus time where I don’t let any other business get in my way. The nice thing about working from home is that I can have my guitar parked right next to me! That way I can practice throughout the day!
3.) Where do you play?
The two primary areas that I utilize for practice are my living room and office. I enjoy more than anything though playing outside and found a great pleasure in bringing my practice sessions to the outdoors. I was even able to bring my guitar with me to vacation in Key Largo Florida (see picture)! There’s nothing better than playing in front of the ocean!!!
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
As previously stated my playing was sporadic at best. I would pick a guitar up for a few weeks and then grow tired of not progressing and simply put it down. Years may go by between my sessions. When Covid hit I needed something to help occupy my mind and bring me out of a home-bound depression. I decided to go out and buy my dream guitar, which is a Martin 000-15m, and resolved to find a program that would keep me dedicated. When I found Tony Acoustic Challenge, I knew that I’d found my guitar home.Since joining TACI have seen almost daily improvements in my playing. I’m able to play songs that I never would’ve thought possible. In addition to that it has provided me with stability in my playing routine. I find time every single day no matter what is going on to complete the daily challenge. Lastly it has reignited my love for music. The need to artistically express ourselves is an innate human characteristic…. I never even realized that before starting my guitar journey! Thank you Tony, staff and TAC members for all of your help in making my dreams of guitar playing possible!
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
I’m not much of a coffee drinker but I do need my caffeine! I almost always have my diet Dr Pepper sitting right next to me while I’m playing!
