1.) How many days per week do you play?

In the past 6 months, I’ve been pretty good at 6 days a week but I push for 7 every week. The desire is there and I’m starting to see the results from consistency finally.

2.) What time of day do you play?

My playing time is usually at the end of the day as things wind down. As a single parent, the day is full with getting my daughter going for school, holding down a full-time job and then taking care of the chief cook and bottle washer duties. When I hit that 9:00pm hour I’m looking for the retreat to the guitars.

    3.) Where do you play?

I originally played in my basement office/guitar den but have tried to raise the level of intent so I’ve moved the guitar room to just off the living room where I can see them every day. I’ve put up some guitars, some music related items on the walls and have created my own little space to embrace the music. I’m working on a 2nd space in the bedroom which has enough area for a sitting space for half of the guitar collection.

<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).

Before my routine my practice sessions were spotty and irregular. I was focused on family as I was providing all the support I could to my wife during her struggle with cancer this past year. She liked to hear me practice and enjoyed relaxing to the sounds, no matter how bad I butchered the lessons. She lost her battle last August and making these changes to where I play and implementing the routine has given me the opportunity to deal with the loss, providing a much needed escape.

The routine has now become ingrained and is something I look forward to every morning because of the enjoyment it brings me.

I find that with this routine, I’m finding chords are coming much easier and with less required effort to think about where I need to place those fingers. Technique is improving as tone is becoming cleaner and brighter. I am still working on tempo as I am still in the slow speed lane but I definitely feel that the challenge of some of the lessons are now within reach. I’m expecting to improve on those speed challenges with time as well.

I’m still petrified of playing in front of others but someday is lot closer.

I’m looking forward to learning my first full song, end to end instead of all of the sound bites that have been part of the guitar history for me.

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?

My laptop and tablet. Call them the support team as without them I can’t enjoy TAC.
